The Intelligent Systems Series comprises titles that present state of the art knowledge and the latest advances in intelligent systems. Its scope includes theoretical studies, design methods, and real-world implementations and applications. Traditionally, Intelligence and Security Informatics (ISI) research and applications have focused on information sharing and data mining, social network analysis, infrastructure protection and emergency responses for security informatics. With the continuous advance of IT technologies and the increasing sophistication of national and international security, in recent years, new directions in ISI research and applications have emerged to address complicated problems with advanced technologies. Intelligence and Security Informatics (ISI) is defined as the study of the development and use of advanced information systems and technologies for national, international, and societal security-related applications. With the rise of global terrorism, the field has been given an increasing amount of attention from academic researchers, law enforcement, intelligent experts, information technology consultants and practitioners. SECURITY INFORMATICS is global in scope and perspective. Leading experts will be invited as contributing authors from the US, UK, Denmark, Israel, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Europe, etc. It is the first systematic, archival volume treatment of the field and will cover the very latest advances in ISI research and practice. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second Symposium on Intelligence and Security Informatics, ISI 2004, held in Tucson, AZ, USA in June 2004. The 29 revised full papers and 12 revised short papers presented together with 6 extended abstracts of posters and 3 panel discussion summaries were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book.
