Selected Social Safety Net Programs In The Philippines

World Bank Discussion Paper No. 374. China's far-ranging program of macroeconomic reform affects monetary, financial, fiscal, and exchange rate policies as well as institution building. This book contains papers produced from 1992 to 1994 by China's Department of Macroeconomic Regulation Studies (DMRS), under the direction of the System Restructuring Commission. These include reports and essays on Chinese macroeconomic policy and reforms carried out or led by the DMRS, reflecting the key issues and debates of this period. The papers provide a history of the departments work, corrects some misunderstandings, and constitutes a record of experiences that may be useful for future studies on economic reform and policy initiatives.

The effects of the regional economic crisis in Asia still lingers on, and affected countries set up social safety nets to cushion the impact of the crisis on their people. This publication presents a summary of case studies conducted in Indonesia, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, and Thailand in 1999 with the aim of strengthening policies and programmes for social provision in the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific region.

On 21-22 April 2010, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) organized a social protection conference in Manila. Interest in social protection has been growing since the global financial crisis heightened awareness of the many millions of people in Asia and the Pacific who live in poverty or vulnerable situations. Thus, policy makers are now keen to develop social protection systems that can assist people to both leave and stay out of poverty. The conference brought together people from ADB, its developing member countries, partner agencies, research institutes, and civil society organizations to exchange valuable experience and information and discuss ideas on how to develop social protection and expand it for the well-being of people in Asia and the Pacific. This book features selected papers from the conference that respond to the need for integrated and inclusive social protection to improve the quality of peoples' lives and livelihoods. Specific areas emphasized are health insurance, pensions, the informal sector, measures targeting children, and measuring and monitoring social protection.

This book provides the proceedings of two meetings organised by the OECD to discuss the issue of developing social protection. It brings together perspectives of experts from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand, as well as contributions from Korea and Australia, plus the views of IGOs.

This paper contains two separate but intimately linked reports that deal with corporate social responsibility. The first explores the critical success factors supporting the integration of social concerns into the planning and implementation of privately financed projects in the mining, oil, and gas sectors. The second reviews corporate practices with respect to social and environmental assessment, and the integration between the two.
