The present book is the second book in a seven book series entitled "The Seven Pillars of Discipleship." This particular book is based on the church and its doctrines. What is it that we believe and why. It is designed to provoke growth through probing questions in regard to the Scriptures. The concept behind the book grew from a desire to see the people of God grow in regard to their salvation. The church has always been a burden on my heart. Why is it that believers today don't seem to have a similar passion as those of the first century church? How is it that the church has so easily capitulated to the philosophies of this world? Why is the holiness of God, righteousness, repentance and judgment no longer part of the church's DNA? Of course I am speaking very generally for the most part. But that is why this book was written. Though it is written in the form of a bible study, the goal is to ask questions to lead one to think in regards to God's righteous standards and man's lowly state. Dr. Terren L. Dames was born in Nassau, Bahamas, has been married to his one wife Stacy for 20 years with four Children. Dr. Dames presently serves as senior pastor and elder at North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship in Plano Texas. He has an earned PhD from the University of North Texas in comparative higher education and cognate in Christian higher education, a Th.M. from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in practical theology, a MA from Dallas Theological Seminary in Christian Education and a BA from the College of Biblical Studies in Leadership. Dr. Dames is passionate about the word of God and His people.

The title of this book, Seven Pillars of Discipleship: Book One, is the first in a seven-part series on discipleship. Pillar one or book one deals with the beginning of the discipleship process (salvation). In order for one to become a disciple of Jesus the Christ, he/she must first be born again—that is the acceptance of Christ as Lord and Savior and the repentance (turning away from) sin. Book one seeks to show why salvation is necessary and God’s plan to redeem the world through the death of His only begotten Son. A misunderstanding of salvation results in an eternal outcome, hence, this is probably the most important message in the series and the most essential to the foundation of the discipleship process.

As believer in Christ Jesus, we are all called to present ourselves a living sacrifice, pleasing and acceptable to God as a rational service of worship. This book is designed to provoke growth through probing questions regarding prayer to God in accordance with His Word, devotion to God by living according to His Word, and meditation on God’s Word to know the will of God that which is good and acceptable and perfect. This pillar is speaking to the person who has already received the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus and have become part of His church. To this, individual rests the responsibility to be conformed to the image of Christ—that is, to grow regarding their salvation as they become disciples of Christ. Believing in Jesus does not make one a disciple, but as Jesus said, the one who would choose to become His disciple must first deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. As a disciple, this is seen through one’s devotion to God and His Word through daily communion in prayer and meditating on God’s Word.

As a disciple we are commanded by Christ to teach all that He has commanded, this can only be accomplished through studying and rightly applying the word of God in all the life situations.
