This book gathers selected papers presented at the KES International Symposium on Smart Transportation Systems (KES STS 2022). Modern transportation systems have undergone a rapid transformation in recent years, producing a range of technological innovations such as connected vehicles, self-driving cars, electric vehicles, Hyperloop, and even flying cars, and with them, fundamental changes in transport systems around the world. The book discusses current challenges, innovations, and breakthroughs in smart transportation systems, as well as transport infrastructure modeling, safety analysis, freeway operations, intersection analysis, and other related cutting-edge topics.

The book discusses current challenges, innovations, and breakthroughs in smart transportation systems, as well as transport infrastructure modeling, safety analysis, freeway operations, intersection analysis, and other related cutting-edge topics.

This book presents essential new governance structures to embrace and regulate smart mobility modes. Drawing on a range of case studies, it paves the way for new approaches to governing future transportation systems. Over the past decades, Information and Communication Technologies have enabled the development of new mobility solutions that have completely redefined traditional and well-established urban transportation systems. Urban transportation systems are evolving dramatically, from the development of shared mobility modes, to the advent of electric mobility, and from the automated mobility trend to the rapid spread of integrated transportation schemes. Given the disruptive nature of those new mobility solutions, new governance structures are needed. Through a series of case studies from around the world, this book highlights governance and regulatory processes having supported, or sometimes prevented, the development and implementation of smart mobility solutions (shared, automated, electric, integrated). The combination of chapters offers a comprehensive overview of the different research endeavours focusing on the governance of smart transportation systems and will help pave the way for this important subject, which is crucial for the future of cities.

Intelligent traffic and transport systems combine the skills and management technologies of engineering, artificial intelligence, information technology and telecommunications to improve the efficiency of traffic and transport, benefitting the environment by reducing air and noise pollution and helping to create traffic free zones in cities. The management of public transport systems and vehicle fleets can also be improved by the provision of on-line information and better communication. This book presents the proceedings of ICITT2022, the 6th International Conference on Intelligent Traffic and Transportation, held in Paris, France from 25 – 27 September 2022. ICITT is a major annual event for the academics, researchers and industrialists engaged in intelligent traffic and transportation research, and is a friendly and inclusive platform that brings together a broad community of researchers sharing the common goal of developing and managing the engineering and technology key to sustaining the success of the intelligent traffic and transportation industries. The theme of the 2022 conference was Smart Digital Traffic and Transportation, and the book includes 15 papers, selected after a rigorous peer-review process. The papers are divided into 4 sections, which cover intelligent traffic and transportation; transportation in future smart cities; mobility and cyber-physical systems; and intelligent automation and ICT-enabled collaborative global systems. Covering a wide range of topics, the book will be of interest to all those working in the field of intelligent traffic and transportation.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Intelligent Transport Systems, INTSYS 2022, which was held in Lisbon, Portugal, in December 15-16, 2022. With the globalization of trade and transportation and the consequent multi-modal solutions used, additional challenges are faced by organizations and countries. Intelligent Transport Systems make transport safer, more efficient, and more sustainable by applying information and communication technologies to all transportation modes. The 15 revised full papers in this book were selected from 45 submissions and are organized in three thematic sessions on smart city; transportation modes and AI; intelligent transportation and electric vehicles.

This book includes selected papers from the fifth International Conference on Smart Vehicular Technology, Transportation, Communication and Applications (VTCA 2022), held in online mode during December 24–26, 2022. The book includes research works from engineers, researchers, and practitioners interested in the advances and applications in the field of vehicle technology and communication. The 7 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 80 submissions.
