Mondialisation culturelle, planétarisation des enjeux, notamment écologiques, hégémonie d'un capitalisme financier fort éloigné du capitalisme industriel familial, fragilisation de la capacité des Etats-nations à peser sur les dynamiques nationales et internationales, épuisement de la modernité comme projet, développement de logiques particularistes ou localistes, virtualisation de la réalité sociale... Force est de constater que les assises, les perspectives et les objets de la sociologie ne peuvent qu'être touchés par ces mutations profondes du contexte dans lequel celle-ci continue à se déployer comme discipline et comme pratique. Loin de se tourner avec nostalgie vers un âge d'or mythifié, il s'agit alors non seulement de comprendre comment la sociologie s'en trouve modifiée dans son fonctionnement institutionnel, mais aussi de saisir les inflexions qui se dessinent dans ses registres théoriques et pratiques. C'est la nature même du projet sociologique contemporain que cet ouvrage entend examiner, de ses conditions de possibilité à ses contenus théoriques, en passant par les perspectives sociopolitiques sur lesquelles il peut ou entend reposer.

Recent social and political developments in the EU have clearly shown the profound structural changes in European society and its politics. Reflecting on these developments and responding to the existing body of academic literature and scholarship, this book critically discusses the emerging notion of European constitutionalism, its varieties and different contextualization in theories of EU law, general jurisprudence, sociology of law, political theory and sociology. The contributors address different problems related to the relationship between the constitutional state and non-state constitutionalizations and critically analyze general theories of constitutional monism, dualism and pluralism and their juridical and political uses in the context of EU constitutionalism. Individual chapters emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary and socio-legal methods in the current research of EU constitutionalism and their potential to re-conceptualize and re-think traditional problems of constitutional subjects, limitation and separation of power, political symbolism and identity politics in Europe. This collection simultaneously describes the EU and its self-constitution as one polity, differentiated society and shared community and its contributors conceptualize the sense of common identity and solidarity in the context of the post-sovereign multitude of European society.

Digitalization is a long socio-historic process in which all areas of societys activities are reconfigured. In the first volume of Digitalization of Society and Socio-political Issues, there is an examination of the transformations linked to the development of digital platforms and social media which affect cultural and communicational industries. The book also analyzes the formation of Big Data, their algorithmic processing and the societal changes which result from them (social monitoring and control in particular). Through diverse critical reflections, it equally presents different ways that digital participates in relations of power and domination, and contributes to eventual emancipatory practices. Following on, the second volume examines the transformations that are linked to digital practices that affect the production, circulation and consumption of information, as well as new forms that are taken by social mobilizations. It treats several important issues in the digital era that are more likely to become the subject of public debates, among which one can include the renewed relationship between research and digital. Through diverse critical reflections, it equally presents different ways that digital participates in relations of power and domination, and contributes to eventual emancipatory practices.
