Jenna never understood what the successful, sophisticated Aimee saw in Wayne, with his Star Wars obsession and harebrained business schemes. And gained her best friend’s husband… But Aimee has left a shocking last request: Jenna now has financial custody of the not-so-merry widower. True, Wayne needs someone sensible around to keep him under control, but what was her dear departed friend thinking? The thing is, as she gets to know Wayne better, his latest moneymaking idea actually starts to intrigue her. Her attractive new lawyer boyfriend doesn’t approve of it—but then, Wayne doesn’t approve of her attractive new lawyer boyfriend. Now Jenna has to figure out what direction her life is going to take next. And she can’t help asking herself: What would Aimee do?

This book is primariy about people who live on the "fringe" of society. Minimum wage workers, bikers, new agers, etc. Books like Even Cowgirls Get the Blues and Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Roggins, The World According to Garp by Jon Irving, Fear and Loathing by Thompson and even Naked Lunch by Burroughs are influences. The characters bounce around like colorful rubber balls off the narrator-paddle. He is the constant, the voice of reason, but he is influenced at times also. At times, funny, but sometimes the string breaks and tragedy ensues.

The telephone's insistent ringing at three in the morning snatched Sam Workman from dreamless sleep. "Hello," he mumbled. "This is a warning," said a digitally altered voice. "Leave Betterton now! If you don't, you won't live long enough to regret it." "Who is this?" Sam angrily demanded to a dead line. "Unknown name, unknown number," blinked the call identifier. "Coward!" Workman growled and slammed down the receiver. The call was the first episode in a conspiracy to force Sam and his business, B&W Concrete, out of Betterton or destroy them. Followed were attempts to oust B&W from two construction projects, a hospital addition and an engine plant, totaling $400 million in construction costs to yield B&W $10 million profits. Sam retains attorney Penn Roman to stem the tide of disastrous actions drowning B&W in a flood of claims of incompetency and fraud and more threats and violence against Sam, Penn, and Penn's family. When a testing lab employee working on the projects disappears, and the newspaper prints libelous articles condemning B&W, Penn and Sam find themselves entangled in a web of greed, deceit, violence, and murder. Courageously, they face the schemers in an explosive and telling trial to the finish.
