A MUST READ FOR EVERY TEENAGE GIRL AND WOMEN OF ALL AGES! This book will impart the passion and feeling behind the women of the Suffrage movement without whom women of today would not have the right to vote and other civil liberties. Herein are 25 songs and poems compiled from various sources by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (July 3, 1860 – August 17, 1935), who was active in Californian Suffrage Movement. These are the songs that the Suffragettes sang and the poems which inspired them to take action. She was so well thought of that she was elected to represent California at the National American Woman Suffrage Association convention in Washington, D.C. in 1896, and later the International Socialist and Labor Congress in London. Gilman's first book was Art Gems for the Home and Fireside (1888); however, it was her first volume of poetry, In This Our World (1893), a collection of satirical poems, that first brought her recognition. During the next two decades she gained much of her fame with lectures on women's issues, ethics, labor, human rights, and social reform. She often referred to these themes in her fiction. Gilman's most famous piece is her short story "The Yellow Wallpaper", which became a best-seller of the Feminist Press. She wrote it on June 6 and 7, 1890. During her life, Gilman published 3 volumes of poetry, 9 novels and novellas as well as 186 short stories in magazines and newspapers. The table of Contents for this volume is: Another Star Anti-Suffragists. The Anti and the Fly. The Boys Will Be Boys Coming For Fear Females Girls of To-day Housewife. The Song for Equal Suffrage To the Indifferent Women Women of To-day Women to Men Women Do Not Want It Wedded Bliss We As Women It is hard to believe in modern times that the issue of women's suffrage once wracked the nations of the western world. Riots, demonstrations, and indignant editorials highlight the history of this long battle. The Pitcairn Islands put the world to shame by enfranchising women in 1838, New Zealand and the Cook Islands in 1893, Australia in 1902 and Finland in 1906. The USA finally enfranchised women in 1920 with the 19th Amendment. In the UK it finally succeeded through the passing of two laws in 1918 and 1928. A list of the countries and the years they granted women’s suffrage at a national level can be found on Wikipedia. 10% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to charities supporting young women. The music of the women's suffrage movement reflects the culture of change that activists inspired and that inspired activism. The songs of the suffragists reveal the persuasive arguments underpinning their efforts to gain the right to vote and linking their cause to the other activist movements of their time. The lyrics of the pre-Nineteenth Amendment songs foreshadow the arguments of later suffragists, who sought to advance the cause of women's equality in their own time. Written to commemorate the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment's passage, this book features the lyrics of more than twenty songs: from the 1851 song, "The Bloomer's Complaint" to the 2017 song, "Woman," this book explores the cultural context and enduring themes of feminism in American songs.Enjoy this historical tour of feminist songs from 1850 to 2020, a showcase of the enduring suffragist message, and a call to continue the fight for freedom and equality.

This collection of essays explores the myriad ways in which the women’s suffrage movement in Britain in the nineteenth century and twentieth century engaged with and was expressed through literature, art and craft, music, drama and cinema. Uniquely, this anthology places developments in the constituent arts side by side, and in dialogue, rather than focusing on a single field in isolation. In so doing, it illustrates how creative endeavours in different artforms converged in support of women’s suffrage. Topics encompassed range from the artistic output of such household names as Sylvia Pankhurst and Ethel Smyth, to the recent feature film Suffragette. It also brings to light under-represented figures and neglected works related to the suffrage movement. A wide variety of material is explored, from poems, diaries and newspapers to posters, dress and artefacts to songs, opera, plays and film. Published in the wake of the centenary of many women receiving the parliamentary vote in the UK, this book will appeal to scholars, undergraduate and graduate students, and members of the public interested in the broad areas of women’s history and the women’s suffrage movement, as well as across the arts disciplines.
