I had hurt long enough. I picked up the .357 and jammed the barrel deep in my mouth, feeling the front sight digging into flesh and drawing blood. I knew that this would make an exit hole the size of my fist. I pulled slack out of the trigger. Then, just before the hammer fell, a thought flashed through the alcohol haze and pain like a laser piercing smoke: "Wait a minute. You can always do this later if things don't get better. Have you met an engineering professor? Have you met an engineering professor who is deep into spirituality and writes spiritual books? I have, and he is me. I had worked as an engineering professor in a university in Singapore. I now write philosophical, self-help and spiritual books. For an engineering professor to become a spiritual author is unusual to say the least. Indeed, it is this unusualness that prompted me to write this book. Engineering and spirituality are often perceived as two ends of a spectrum, and it is. As engineering deals with the physical, and spirituality deals with the non-physical, there is actually tremendous synergy once they are combined. I’ve written quite a few books about spirituality and my experiences and beliefs in our abilities to expand our consciousness through spiritual development practices, meditation, and the paranormal. This book includes my experiences with paranormal abilities acquired from the spiritual development process and different enlightenment experiences. Having been raised in a technical family and gone to engineering school my perspective is pretty unique since I developed both traditional technical knowledge of the world while I was also going through the spiritual development and enlightenment process. There are many engineers and scientists who are also religious but I’ve found that technical people who are as deeply into spiritual enlightenment practices and paranormal experiences are pretty rare. What I’ve found is that this dual background has given me more clarity about the world we live in and better objectivity in many cases regarding strange or unusual phenomena. The theme of this book is to review how I went through this dual track system of learning in my life to become both a traditional engineer and to have fairly adept knowledge of spiritual and paranormal experiences.
