Classical and Contemporary Studies for Bass Guitar combines essential studies from 19th- century composer Giovanni Bottesini; the “Paganini of bass”, with contemporary studies by Gilbert Isbin; one of the leading European composers for guitar, lute and bass. These 33 studies will help build not just your technique, but reading abilities and overall musicianship. The material is intended for serious bass students and can be played on a fretted or fretless bass. While Bottesini's works lie firmly in the classical genre, Isbin's studies bring in elements of classical, jazz and world music. All the studies are written in standard bass clef notation as well as tablature. Includes access to online audio recorded by Rob MacKillop for each study.

Improve your bass guitar technique and musicality by studying the music of the masters. Classical Favorites for Electric Bass is a collection of solos and duets featuring the music of Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Dragonetti and other composers of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. Some of these pieces are well-known and others are a bit off the beaten path, but each composition encourages technical and musical development in players who want to expand the scope of the electric bass beyond traditional bass lines. This book is written in standard bass clef notation and tablature and is recommended for the intermediate to advanced player.

"A 'Pop' musician playing and studying classical music?". Have you ever been asked this question? I have, often. I think it depends on the fact that it is not entirely conceived to love both compositions and works from four or five centuries ago and those of today. I must say that I am not a classical musician, but I have always loved the great composers, and in recent years, I have become even closer to that fascinating world, so much so that I have tried to play some works on my instrument, a very normal 4-string electric bass. Personally, I consider it a very important type of study, even for those who do not aspire to become classical musicians, but who just want to expand their harmonic and melodic knowledge, and broaden their musical culture. Obviously we are talking about music composed when the electric bass was still not even remotely conceived (in this book we will deal mostly with the 18th and 19th century period), so it is useless to hide the fact that certain types of compositions (symphonies, chorales, etc.) are practically impossible to perform on our instrument. I have decided to include the tablatures (if you want the version without, just email me at [email protected]), to give you some fingering indications (try to find your own, though) and to facilitate the work of those with less music-reading skills. These are all my teaching books on Bass Guitar: - Queen: 185 bass transcriptions - John Deacon: complete study - Jaco Pastorius: 70 bass transcriptions
