Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 Event planning is a service-driven profession in which self-abnegation, adaptability, and flexibility are essential survival traits. When a client requests changes at the last minute, an event planner can’t afford to be flustered, disappointed, or frustrated. He simply has to make them. #2 van Wyck founded the company in 1999, and since then has worked with several not-for-profit organizations. #3 Van Wyck’s team had to figure out how to make the space work, while still keeping it elegant and intimate. They decided on a progressive approach, with different areas for cocktails and dinner. #4 The presentation finished, and all eyes turned to the speakerphone. I love the tunnel, CEO Linda Ludwig said, but the antechamber with the potted plants looks a bit tacky. And I’m not sure how I feel about the leaves at the base of the mirrors.

In 1992 the first issue of Joe's appeared causing a sensation with its bold integration of art and fashion. The lavish presentation combined the eroticism of Bruce Weber's photos, the delicacy of Paul Cadmus drawings, and the ennui of the memoirs of actor Dirk Bogarde. Edited and published by fashion stylish extraordinaire Joe McKenna, the magazine re-defined style and quickly became a hard to find collectors item. After a very long wait Joe's is back again. This time contributors include Mario Sorrenti, Jurgen Teller, David Sims, Amy Spindler as well as new work by Bruce Weber and Steven Miesel. Joe says this issue will take a subversive view of fashion, so look out!

* Best Books of 2015 - Photo District News Photo AnnualThe photographs that make up this first book by renowned photojournalist Jean-Pierre Laffont serve as a powerful and provocative examination of the American dream. For nearly three decades, Laffont traveled the breadth of the United States, a true embodiment of American freedom. Documenting the country in all of its facets - from national crises and unsightly social injustices to heartfelt protest and solidarity, the photographer took full advantage of the access granted to him bythe world's greatest democracy. He traveled all fifty of the United States to document a broad swath of the country's fabric, capturing America through some of its most turbulent eras. From the electric chair at Sing Sing to Women's Jello Wrestling, the Watkins Glen rock festival to the Kent State shooting protest in Washington DC, Laffont was front and centre to history as it unfolded. Never working on assignment, Laffont chased stories of his own volition with a lens that was at once compassionate, humanistic, and unflinching. Taken together, these pages tell the story of the chaotic, often painful, birth of twenty-first-century America - a place where a black president, gay marriage, and women executives have become the new norm. Photographer's Paradise reminds us of the power of the freedom of speech, as Laffont speaks truth to power through his camera lens. The volume discusses what the Turkish Model, or Turkish Development Alternative, was and why it was promoted in the Central Asian republics immediately following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It argues that the Turkish Model was a myth that transferred the ideal of a ''secular, democratic, liberal society'' as a model for the post Soviet Turkic world and in the process encouraged a ''Turkic" rhetoric that emphasized connection between the two regions based on a common ancestry. The volume begins with an understanding of the reality of the Model from a Turkish perspective and then goes on to examine whether the Turkic world as a "cultural-civilizational alternative" makes sense both from a historical as well as contemporary perspective. It concludes by looking at the re-emergence of the Model in the wake of the events in West Asia in early 2011 and examines how in the light of a search for options the Turkish Model is once again projected as viable.
