Superparticles

This book is all about the captivating ability that the human language has to express intricately logical (mathematical) meanings using tiny (microsemantic) morphemes as utilities. Languages mark meanings with identical inferences using identical particles and these particles thus creep up in a wide array of expressions. Because of their multi-tasking capacity to express seemingly disparate meanings, they are dubbed Superparticles. These particles are perfect windows into the interlock of several grammatical modules and the nature of the interaction of these modules through time. With a firm footing in the module where grammatical bones are built and assembled (narrow morpho-syntax), superparticles acquire varied interpretation (in the conceptual-intentional module – semantics) depending on the structure they fea- ture in. What is more, some of the interpretations these particles trigger are inferential and belong, under the standard account, to the realm of pragmatics. How can such tiny particles, rarely exceeding a syllable of sound, have such powerful and over-arching effects across the inter-modular grammatical space? This is the Platonic background against which this book is set.

This edited volume brings together the expertise of numerous specialists on the topic of particles – their physical, chemical, pharmacological and toxicological characteristics – when they are a component of pharmaceutical products and formulations. The book discusses in detail properties such as the composition, size, shape, surface properties and porosity of particles with respect to how they impact the formulations and products in which they are used and the effective delivery of pharmaceutical active ingredients. It considers all dosage forms of pharmaceuticals involving particles, from powders to tablets, creams to ointments, and solutions to dry-powder inhalers, also including the latest nanomedicine products. Further, it discusses examples of particle toxicity, as well as the important subject of pharmaceutical industry regulations, guidelines and legislation. The book is of interest to researchers and practitioners who work on testing and developing pharmaceutical dosage and delivery systems.

The papers in this collection explore the connections between the rapidly developing fields of measure-valued processes, stochastic partial differential equations, and interacting particle systems, each of which has undergone profound development in recent years. Bringing together ideas and tools arising from these different sources, the papers include contributions to major directions of research in these fields, explore the interface between them, and describe newly developing research problems and methodologies. Several papers are devoted to different aspects of measure-valued branching processes (also called superprocesses). Some new classes of these processes are described, including branching in catalytic media, branching with change of mass, and multilevel branching. Sample path and spatial clumping properties of superprocesses are also studied. The papers on Fleming-Viot processes arising in population genetics include discussions of the role of genealogical structures and the application of the Dirichlet form methodology. Several papers are devoted to particle systems studied in statistical physics and to stochastic partial differential equations which arise as hydrodynamic limits of such systems. With overview articles on some of the important new developments in these areas, this book would be an ideal source for an advanced graduate course on superprocesses.

Starting out from the fundamentals, this book covers the chemistry and physics of ceramic materials, as well as their behavior and resulting properties, including bio-inspired approaches and microstructural aspects. As such, it presents production methods as well as the scientific background, teaching all important mathematical methods: classical, quantum-mechanical, phenomenological, and model-based approaches. Further emphasis is laid upon the current state of the art and possible developments and challenges within the near future.

This is the first of a new series of conferences on High Energy Physics to be held at the ICTP on Trieste. The aim of the present Conference is to cover various aspects of physics in 2+1 dimensions, especially (super)membrane theories, and to provide a platform for a discussion of the up-to-date status of the field. There will also be introductory lectures which should be useful, especially to those who wish to begin research in this subject.
