As this object would be effectually attained, should the critical sys tem, on Which Dr. Griesbach proposed to amend the received Text, be incautiously admitted; it required no exertion of sagacity, or stretch of foresight to oh serve, that while his critical labors continued silently to gain ground; the landmarks fixed by the Established Church, as a barrier to innovation and error, could not preserve their original position.
