Tales of Tails was written to share the joy I experienced over a lifetime with animals. I have learned to love and respect them, whether they are domestic or wild. The book strives to give a voice to these animals and let them tell their story. Several of the tales show unseen relationships between animals that commonly exist in nature. Some of the tales are of animals I have treated as a Veterinarian of medical or surgical problems. Much can be learned from animals through the course of medical treatments. I enjoy sharing my animal lore stories with others through various nature hikes and conversations. The sketches were drawn by a friend who shares my love and respect of animals. Animals are a large part of her life, and she shares my respect for all on God's earth.

Hidden amidst the clouds lies the mystifying region known as the Never Summer Mountains. Here, lush natural meadows provide a setting that is bursting with skunk cabbage and chokecherry bushes, and high-altitude water bogs that some say are inhabited by fairies. As the Thunder Moon of July rose high in the starless sky, even the wind held its breath in anticipation of the squall that was already brewing, just before the first bolt of white-hot lightning exploded through the alpine tundra. Follow the adventures of Sagebrush, the tailless puppy, in her high-country adventure as she journeys through the Never Summer Mountains with her companions to clear a colossal landslide that has jammed Froze Creek with rubble and blocked the local water source. From international award-winning Author Joni Franks comes the seventh book in the Corky Tails book collection. This story addresses belittling, the value of teamwork, and making judgements based on appearance, all woven into a fairytale setting, with a surprise ending that will melt your heart.

Tails are everywhere, at animal shows, in zoos, museums, the sea, aquariums and on pets and wildlife. Most of the two million species of animals and many of the 4800 species of mammals have part of their body that can be considered a tail by its position or movement. This book looks at some of the creatures that possess tails, what they do with them and what possible use they have. It also looks at examples of mythological creatures with tails, the tails we eat, where tails are mentioned in literature and sayings and words associated with the word tails. It's all about tails, so if you haven't got a tail and feel a little bit left out, find out what you're missing and read 'Tails Tales'.

Suddenly, the cows began to paw at the ground, and the horses began trotting nervously and whinnying. The next thing Sagebrush and the Young Miss knew, a herd of deer came running out of the forest, straight past Sagebrush and the Young Miss. “Fire!” the big antlered buck screamed as he ran across the lawn where the little mountain cabin sat. “Run for your lives! The woods are on fire!” he screamed. The Young Miss had heard that animals in the forest have an alert system to communicate with when danger looms. The Young Miss looked wide-eyed at Sagebrush. “Go wake up your parents, Sagebrush. Hurry, we have to act fast!” Sagebrush turned toward the cabin and began running as fast as she could to let Ginger and Maverick—her parents, the house dogs—know of the imminent danger.
