Jack and his friends, still attached to Marshal Sykes’ posse, are on their way to Eagle Town to rendezvous with a cavalry detachment. Yet there are still questions marks hanging over his mission. Texas Jack: America’s First Cowboy Star is a biography of John B. “Texas Jack” Omohundro, the first well-known cowboy in America. A Confederate scout and spy from Virginia, Jack left for Texas within weeks of Lee’s surrender at Appomattox. In Texas, he became first a cowboy and then a trail boss, jobs that would inform the rest of his life. Jack lead cattle on the Chisholm and Goodnight-Loving trails to New Mexico, California, Kansas and Nebraska. In 1868 he met James B. “Wild Bill” Hickok in Kansas and then William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody in Nebraska at the end of the first major cattle drive to North Platte. Texas Jack and Buffalo Bill became friends, and soon the scout and the cowboy became the subjects of a series of dime novels written by Ned Buntline.

Texas Jack is a legendary hero, a crack shot and a champion of the helpless who gunned down dozens of enemies ... in his travelling show and the novels that bear his name! In reality, though, he’s never been west, and has never shot at anyone. So when a government agent asks him to go to Wyoming to face a bloodthirsty maniac, his first reaction is to say no. Yet to preserve his reputation, he eventually takes the job, and leaves with his three co-stars in the show ...

Texas Jack est un as du revolver. Mais contrairement à sa légende, il n'a jamais exercé ses talents ailleurs que dans un cirque. Il reçoit un jour un défi : partir à l'Ouest, affronter le sanguinaire Gunsmoke et sa horde de tueurs. La mission est suicidaire, mais impossible de refuser sans perdre sa réputation. Heureusement pour Texas Jack, Gunsmoke est aussi la cible du marshal Sykes...

Niemand kan beter met een revolver overweg dan Texas Jack. Maar ondanks zijn status van levende legende heeft hij zijn talent nooit buiten het circus gebruikt. Tot hij op een dag voor de uitdaging staat: naar het Wilde Westen vertrekken om er af te rekenen met de bloeddorstige Gunsmoke en zijn killers. Het is een regelrechte zelfmoordactie maar Texas Jack kan niet anders dan toestemmen om zijn reputatie hoog te houden. Gelukkig hebben ook twee échte wildwestlegenden het op Gunsmoke gemunt: de marshals Sykes en O’Malley ... Ook Sykes krijgt in dit one-shot een rol in het verhaal.
