Excerpt from The British Journal of Homeopathy, 1853, Vol. 11A story is told of the worthy bishop that he Often declared that if he could stand upon the top of St. Paul's, and speak with a voice that all the world could hear. He would say: Drink Tar-water. This enthusiastic admiration of its heal ing virtues, was, doubtless, unadvisedly fixed upon a Single remedy; but we shall, I think, discover from this book, that the views and feelings of the bishop were such, that, if trans ferred from one to all homeopathic remedies, they would then be neither exaggerated nor misplaced.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The British Journal of Homoeopathy, 1877, Vol. 35 We gave in our first number for 1876 a full account of the history of the design of this Convention, and an outline of its intended working. We have not recorded its actual assembling, because this had already been done by one of us in the Monthly Homoeopathic Review and to his account, as that of an actual attendant at the meeting, them was nothing to add. But in our present survey of homoeopathy in 1876 no event stands out before us in greater prominence, and we must briefly note its circum stances and results. Excerpt from The British Journal of Homeopathy, 1852, Vol. 10 The Romans being a people who owed their existence to phy sicsl power, and grew to extensive sway by the exercise of temperance, moderation, activity and valour, little required and little valued the art of healing, and, accordingly, they were slow to receive it; and when in later years it found its way into Rome, along with other arts of the Greeks, it excited the jea lousy and apprehension of those who, in a corrupter age, desired to retain or recover the simplicity of their earlier history, when the healing of diseases was sought rather by the performance of religious rites or devout attendance in the temples of the gods than by any scientific methods. Of this form of medical treat ment by divination, the Etruscans, a Grecian colony, may be considered the founders, and to them are to be ascribed the various temples of Apollo, Esculapius and others, to which the sick resorted in the hope of divine direction.
