The Challenges Of A Greater Europe

This reference book, compiled by twenty-three European authors, presents some of the major challenges facing a greater Europe in the political, judicial, diplomatic, social & cultural fields.

This collection of studies intends to honour Heinrich Klebes, who both as a distinguished international civil servant and as a scholar and analyst has made and continues to make an important contribution to the development of European cooperation in general and within the Council of Europe in particular. At the same time, it offers a unique and stimulating analysis of the development of a common body of law in the wider Europe. The twenty-nine articles contained in this volume are grouped together under five headings: - commitment to democratic standards; - protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms; - the Council of Europe in context; - the common legal space; - common problems of democracy and transatlantic relations.

A central point of controversy among both academics and policymakers is the nature and significance of security in the post-Cold War world. Engaging that discussion, this collection explores the new security challenges facing Europe.

The authors examine the nuts and bolts of EU machinery and present a compelling argument that " ever closer union" will only be possible with greater balance and flexibility among supranational, national, and subnational actors.

This open access book presents the major outcomes of the fourth edition of the Future of Higher Education – Bologna Process Researchers Conference (FOHE-BPRC 4) which was held in January 2020 and which has already established itself as a landmark in the European higher education environment. The conference is part of the official calendar of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) for events that promote and sustain the development of EHEA. The conference provides a unique forum for dialogue between researchers, experts and policy makers in the field of higher education, all of which is documented in this proceedings volume. One of the ways to achieve this objective is to develop more efficient peer-learning activities, involving policymakers and other stakeholders from as many member states as possible for which this book provides a platform. It acknowledges the importance of a continued dialogue between researchers and decisionmakers and benefits from the experience already acquired, this way enabling the higher education community to bring its input into the 2020. This volume contains the proceedings (in English and French) of the International seminar "Integration of the greater European spaces" about the sustainable spatial organisation of the Greater European area. Topics range from geopolitical considerations to territorial impact assessment of concrete projects, and comprehensive reports on the activities undertaken under various European initiatives and programmes of cross-border, transnational and inter-regional co-operation. Particular attention was paid to the presentation of successful regional and local spatial development projects.
