No longer living by rules, wasteful efforts, or people-pleasing, we now live and breathe by way of a supernatural relationship with the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, religious hierarchies who extort Christians, our main enemy, Satan, and the power of sin, all want nothing more than for us to not know what the Cross has truly done. This book is rooted in the quest for Christian identity in the Southern African context where Christianity is faced with many stark challenges, internal tensions and experiences of rapid social change. The book explores six aspects of the highly complex notion of Christian identity, namely Christian institutions, a Christian ethos, Christian rituals, Christian experiences (with specific reference to the notion of ?faith?), Christian narratives (with specific reference to the category of ?revelation? and the place of the Bible in the Christian tradition) and Christian doctrine.

In the Garden of Eden, the first Adam lost his identity by disobeying God's command. Since then, the whole human race has been plagued by an identity crisis. Many look to their jobs, social status, or place of origin for their identity. Others strive for fame, power, or great achievements to establish their identity. The Bible tells us that our true identity is hidden with Christ in God. This book brings to light what the New Testament teaches as the true identity of the believer. Unfortunately, many of these truths are not taught in our churches or Bible institutions, resulting in Christians who are weak, afraid, oppressed, and at best religious without any power.

Becoming Christian examines various facets of the first letter of Peter, in its social and historical setting, in some cases using new social-scientific and postcolonial methods to shed light on the ways in which the letter contributes to the making of Christian identity. At the heart of the book chapters 5-7, examine the contribution of 1 Peter to the construction of Christian identity, the persecution and suffering of Christians in Asia Minor, the significance of the name 'Christian', and the response of the letter to the hostility encountered by Christians in society. There are no recent books which bring together such a wealth of information and analysis of this crucial early Christian text. Becoming Christian has developed out of Horrell's ongoing research for the International Critical Commentary on 1 Peter. Together these chapters offer a series of significant and original engagements with this letter, and a resource for studies of 1 Peter for some time to come.

The need for understanding our true identity is crucial. Without it we really don't know if we are coming or going and we will never know the full benefits of our "true birthright". As you read and study these chapters you will discover the true position, purpose, power, authority and destiny given to us by God. Luke 12:32 "Fear not little flock for it is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Knowing our true identity will bring forth the manifestation of Christ's dominion, and the ruling reigning authoritative rights of our God given inheritance on planet earth as a now reality. It's Christ's day, the day of the Lord manifesting forth in his people. A people that will allow him to open their eyes to his illuminating light of glory and understanding. God is ready to move in a generation that will reveal all of himself through Christ. And in a people unveiling mysteries and secrets or any type of ignorance (1 Cor.15:28). It is my prayer that you would travel through each chapter anticipating the destination and embracing "The True Identity" as your own divine inheritance while you maneuver through each revelation and thought in this book. This book “The Power of Knowing Your True Identity” is volume one of the Collection Trilogy “The Chronicles of the Sons of God”.

This is the introductory volume of a multivolume, verse-by-verse, interfaith rereading of the New Testament letter to the Ephesians. It looks to the Tiantai Buddhist master Zhiyi and his “threefold truth” to enhance our appreciation of nascent trinitarian themes in Ephesians. And it draws upon a broad array of scientific, theological, and philosophical thinkers in aid of rejecting the epistle's ancient, geocentric cosmology and its accommodations to the misogynistic, patriarchal, and slaveholding norms of its first-century surroundings. As a whole, the work constitutes a twenty-first century apologetic for doctrinal humility and for theologizing within a global theological commons.
