This work brings together major accords and protocols that form the institutional framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS); a selection of policy statements by the leaders of CIS countries; a chronological record of political, economic and military security developments and major crises in CIS "hot spots"; and statistics and country profiles.

The year 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of the official inauguration of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a free association of sovereign states comprised by Russia and 11 other republics that were formerly part of the Soviet Union. Although this loose association of states may not exist as a fixed-entity on the globe, it is believed that this bloc of countries will continue to build upon the various separate regions in the former Soviet space in the coming decade. This book provides a regional analysis and a country scan of the CIS regional block economies. The CIS-7 Initiative was launched in 2002 and endorsed by ministers from the CIS-7 and donor countries, with the objective of promoting poverty reduction, economic growth, and debt sustainability among the seven poorest countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
