Evolving the Mind has two main themes: how ideas about the mind evolved in science; and how the mind itself evolved in nature. The mind came into physical science when it was realised, first, that it is the activity of a physical object, a brain, which makes a mind; and secondly, that our theories of nature are largely mental constructions, artificial extensions of an inner model of the world which we inherited from our distant ancestors. From both of these perspectives, consciousness is the great enigma. If consciousness evolved, however, it is in some sense a material thing whatever else may be said of it. Physics, chemistry, molecular biology, brain function and evolutionary biology - almost the whole of science - is involved, and there can be no expert in all these fields. So the style of the book is simple, almost conversational. The excitement is that we seem to be close to a scientific theory of consciousness.

God-not matter-is fundamental. Far from religious fiat attempting to supplant scientific inquiry, the source of that stunning conclusion is actually evidence that the anatomy of the human brain disallows consciousness from being the unbelievably serendipitous work of a random universe. Instead the universe must itself image the mind of God to make sense. Mind, Matter, and God: Exploding the Myth of Evolution is a perfect synchronization of philosophy, religion, and hard science that will shatter the materialistic illusion of "matter before mind." By examining the design of the brain, Glenn G. Dudley, MD, has discovered irrefutable proof that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution is patently false. In this tell-all collection of insights, Dudley outlines the previously unseen functions of our own limbic system-the energy-regulating center of the brain. Dudley concludes that consciousness is the very presence of God. In fact, it cannot be fully explained without acknowledging that humanity was created in the image of God, the transcendent observer. Touching on cosmology, neuroscience, and quantum physics, Dudley offers the convincing argument that all things-from superstrings to supernovas-depend upon the image of the mind of God as the creator and sustainer of the universe.

Not illustrated. 1912 edition. Excerpt: ...volitional Spirit of the central power. Man is sent to the "lilies" to-learn, since their perfect concurrence in gravitational law is superior to lawless reason. The embryo is awakened by the sun's attracting power, but there is in the bosom of the little seed that which is superior to sun, moon, and stars; superior we say, but not independent of, since life rejoices in and feeds upon all that ministers to its abundance, and is itself life in a lower stage of progression. If one thing could be more wonderful than another it would be the infinite variety of equilibria and swiftness of motion--" the speed of ether particles," Le Bon tells us, "is 300,000 times greater than that of a cannon ball"--of the ether particles charged with power that compose the constituent atoms of the embodiment in which every positive entity clothes itself. We know that this variety of equilibria or impact and compact of the positive and negative elements, initiative from the spirit of the central power and response, makes the infinite variety of substances, physical, mental, and psychical. WE KNOW, TOO, THAT ETHER IS THE MEDIUM OF CAUSAL LAW; IN ITS INFINITELY FINE PULSATIONS IT CARRIES SENSIBLE CONTROL AS AIR CONVEYS THE AUDIBLE COMMAND OF A MASTER. In man there are three distinct varieties of equilibria, and of consequent impact and compact of the electronic systems, and so closely are they related and correlated that the body reveals the mind, and the activities of both body and mind reveal the spirit of the man. The individual which these, soul, body, and mind constitute, is an aggregation of gravitational energy; that energy manifests itself in three ways. The positive element spirit organizes or creates, and...
