The Hero Workouts presents a collection of exercise routines honoring the valiant men and women who gave their lives in service to their country. Each workout is dedicated to a fallen hero and includes the true account of their life and service. Bell, Gallant, Pike, Legion 8, Jenny. These are the names of workouts created as a tribute to men and women who lost their lives in service to their country. A new book, The Hero Workouts presents a definitive collection these honorific workouts dedicated to their memory. The Hero Workouts features over 100 workouts each named for a fallen hero and includes the story of their personal lives and battle action. The story behind the Hero Workouts is one that needs to be told. Each workout is named after a fallen soldier or group of soldiers. Just among the selection include Bell, Gallant, Pike, Legion 8, Full Maltz, Griff, Bull, Willy, Joshie, Gator, The Don, Operation Red Wings, Murph, JT, Luce, 31Heroes, Faas Fit, Big Andy, The Jonas Project Memorial WOD, Indian 617, JAG 28, Rocket, Jenny, War Frank, Badger... and more than 100 are featured in The Hero Workouts. Started in the Crossfit community, the Hero Workouts are rooted in honor. By participating in these workouts, one gains the opportunity to revere an individual who has made the ultimate sacrifice. Taking the time to remember these men and women or to learn who they were can be part of a healing process, either on a personal level or in response to a collective loss we all feel. The stories behind the workouts are emotional and moving... stories of courage, family, loss, and grief collected and expressed by researcher and writer Carter Henry, herself an active duty sailor in the United States Navy. Carter Henry has agreed to donate 100% of her earnings from the sale of The Hero Workouts to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF). SOWF provides college scholarships for the surviving children of fallen Special Operations Forces, family & educational counseling, and financial grants to severely-wounded Special Operations Forces service members. The Hero Workouts is an exceptional publication, unique and inspirational, one every American should read and reflect upon.

A breakout training and fitness book by Hollywood trainer and former Navy SEAL, Duffy Gaver, featuring the tried and true workouts used by movie stars like Chris Pratt and Brad Pitt. Former Marine sniper and ex-navy Seal, Duffy Gaver is the unsung hero of Hollywood. As a master trainer to the stars, he has transformed the bodies of actors such as Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Scarlett Johanson, Brad Pitt and many others. He is a Hero-Maker. He gets the most out of his clients by making them rethink their lives. For Duffy, the fitness industry sells a myth: it's all about the latest and greatest fads. Back in 1965, Larry Scott won the first Mr. Olympia. There was no Nike. No thermogenic products. No supplement industry. How did he do it then? With his will, his discipline, his desire. The things that big businesses can't manufacture. The first four minute mile, the first iron man triathlon, and the first world's strongest man all took place before 99% of today's companies even existed. What does this prove? None of this stuff is necessary. Inside Hero Maker, Duffy Gaver shares the knowledge and motivational sit-downs that get his stars to take hold of their own bodies. None of these stars bought their way to their impressive physiques; they earned it with old fashioned work and dedication. He will tell you what you need to do to look super heroic, and he will show you how you too can do this if you put yourself to the task. Inside, you will also find some of his game-changing workouts to help get you there.

This book explores strength sports as a site of political contestation and a platform for insurgent gender practices. It contributes to our understanding of key themes in the study of sport, such as feminism, power, the body and identity. Drawing together interdisciplinary work spanning political science, sociology, gender studies, and biological and cultural anthropology, the book argues that in the face of ongoing embodied precarity, strength sports have become a complex form of both resistance to, and reproduction of, patriarchy. This argument also challenges traditional understandings and definitions of “strength.” Covering recreational-level participation and elite athletics, across experiential/individual, local, national, transnational, and global scales, the book explores diverse topics such as the pregnant strength athlete, the status of trans women in strength sports, and the gendered dimensions of online fitness communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. In so doing, it traces power dynamics and the interplay among multiple oppressions. Showcasing important empirical and activist research, this book is fascinating reading for anybody with an interest in women’s sport, women’s studies, gender studies, the sociology of sport, strength and conditioning, feminist politics, or cultural studies.

This book critically examines the CrossFit phenomenon and makes the argument that CrossFit uses the rhetoric and tactics found in modern forms of authoritarian populism to rally adherents around its brand. CrossFit is a private branded fitness organization whose unorthodox methods and adversarial leadership has challenged dominant ideas around health and fitness worldwide. In exploring CrossFit’s articulations with healthism and the obesity epidemic, the risk discourse of the prepper and survivalist movements, and the increasing valorization of the military and military personnel, Shaun E. Edmonds makes legible the ideological underpinnings of the CrossFit practice. After a deeper look at how CrossFit’s variation of authoritarian populism has been used to counter critics and mobilize the community, the book concludes by considering what might be next for CrossFit following former CEO and co-founder Greg Glassman’s controversial departure from the company.
