If a Muslim came to a Christian, and asked him to explain his belief in Jesus Christ how would a Christian respond? If an Imam asked a Christian Pastor to bring evidence of the Gospels authority would a Pastor welcome the opportunity? And if any Muslim would ask a Christian to judge between their respective beliefs would a Christian know how to do it? These questions presupposed an occurrence that most Christians will never encounter because most Muslims do not ask. Yet, the Quran has been asking these exact same questions of us for the last thirteen hundred years! Should we ignore the Quran for another Millennia? It is time to answer. On a visit to my local mosque, I asked the Imam if I could pray with him. Before I started to pray the Imam quickly interjected. You are not going to pray to Mary, are you? That there are those who pray to Mary (and worship her) is maybe understandable but it is not Biblical! Christians are told in the Quran to desist using the term Trinity. But the word Trinity is not found in the Bible. I believe, as Abraham believed, that there is a God that can be seen and a God that we do not see BUT they are one and the same! Allah is not a name, but the Arabic word for God, even Christians in the Middle East use the word! Al-Maidah 47 Let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed in it. Isaiah 43:10 You are my witness, declares the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Here we hopefully put right many misconceptions and bring what God has revealed.

“A welcome expansion of the fragile territory known as common ground.” —The New York Times When Reza Aslan’s bestseller Zealot came out in 2013, there was criticism that he hadn’t addressed his Muslim faith while writing the origin story of Christianity. In fact, Ross Douthat of The New York Times wrote that “if Aslan had actually written in defense of the Islamic view of Jesus, that would have been something provocative and new.” Mustafa Akyol’s The Islamic Jesus is that book. The Islamic Jesus reveals startling new truths about Islam in the context of the first Muslims and the early origins of Christianity. Muslims and the first Christians—the Jewish followers of Jesus—saw Jesus as not divine but rather as a prophet and human Messiah and that salvation comes from faith and good works, not merely as faith, as Christians would later emphasize. What Akyol seeks to reveal are how these core beliefs of Jewish Christianity, which got lost in history as a heresy, emerged in a new religion born in 7th Arabia: Islam. Akyol exposes this extraordinary historical connection between Judaism, Jewish Christianity and Islam—a major mystery unexplored by academia. From Jesus’ Jewish followers to the Nazarenes and Ebionites to the Qu’ran’s stories of Mary and Jesus, The Islamic Jesus will reveal links between religions that seem so contrary today. It will also call on Muslims to discover their own Jesus, at a time when they are troubled by their own Pharisees and Zealots.

Hundreds of millions of Christians worship Jesus. Likewise, hundreds of millions of Muslims worship Allah. Allah is the God of Islam. He is the God who spoke through the mouth of Muhammad in the Koran. Allah is one of the most powerful and magnetic personalities in today s world. His words as spoken in the Koran influence the thoughts, desires, and actions of Muslims on a daily basis. Is Allah the same person as the God of the Bible? Is Allah merely Muhammad s conception of God? What does Allah say about Christians, Jews and the nation Israel? Does he advocate jihad? Does he support terrorism? The book Allah Revealed does a thoughtful analysis of his identity by doing a verse by verse commentary of the Koran from a biblical viewpoint. This book must be praised for its novel approach, placing the Bible and Qur an stories side by side. A valuable and comprehensive resource for faith communities. In September, 1219, as the armies of the Fifth Crusade besieged the Egyptian city of Damietta, Francis of Assisi went to Egypt to preach to Sultan al-Malik al-Kâmil. Although we in fact know very little about this event, this has not prevented artists and writers from the thirteenth century to the twentieth, unencumbered by mere facts, from portraying Francis alternatively as a new apostle preaching to the infidels, a scholastic theologian proving the truth of Christianity, a champion of the crusading ideal, a naive and quixotic wanderer, a crazed religious fanatic, or a medieval Gandhi preaching peace, love, and understanding. Al-Kâmil, on the other hand, is variously presented as an enlightened pagan monarch hungry for evangelical teaching, a cruel oriental despot, or a worldly libertine. Saint Francis and the Sultan takes a detailed look at these richly varied artistic responses to this brief but highly symbolic meeting. Throwing into relief the changing fears and hopes that Muslim-Christian encounters have inspired in European artists and writers in the centuries since, it gives a uniquely broad but precise vision of the evolution of Western attitudes towards Islam and the Arab world over the last eight hundred years.
