The bulk of the volume is devoted to Saint Rose and Blessed Colomba, both spiritual daughters of St. Catherine of Siena and, like her, Dominicans of the Third Order, That is to say that they imitated St. Catherine's penitential spirituality closely, and with similar results.. In other words they had, especially St. Rose, tremendous impact on their society. This is reflected in the enormous amount of artwork she inspired in the first two centuries after her death and in the fact that she has been made patroness of the Americas. Blessed Colomba is wholly a delight, but too little known outside of Italy, like St. Catherine a penitent and a miracle worker.
