As the Shepherd of our souls, God knows what things we have need of. As Father, He has also supplied the need; however, because of the condition of our hearts, the supply is often met with opposition. Because of unbelief, three out of four of us will reject the wisdom sown in our hearts. This occurs primarily because our identity (who we are in Christ) has not been established; making us ill-prepared to function in His likeness; to think like Him. Consequently, we are not equipped to handle the storms of life. Finding ourselves going around the same mountain again and again, we sit back and question God. But through praying the Lord's Prayer, our Maker can get in and turn things around. The Lord's Prayer-Revisited will address seven ways God uses to bring about a turnaround in our prayer life. First, it brings us back to God's original manner of prayer; it teaches us to prepare our hearts to receive His Word and keep it. Next, it helps to guard us from the sin of presumption that leads to unbelief and ultimate disappointment. The Lord's Prayer also teaches us that prayer is a test that exposes the condition of our hearts. God is endeavoring to prove Himself faithful to those whose hearts are perfect toward Him. But often, His Word finds no rest in many of our hearts. As the author of our faith, God is looking for the operation of one of seven processes that prove that we are willing and able to think on His level. These secret processes bring the powerful alliance of God and man to the needs in our lives--and correlate with each petition-verse of the Lord's Prayer. The Lord's Prayer-Revisited will also bring the seven Redemptive Names of God to bear on our prayer life, where the promises of God are confirmed. The name of Jesus embodies all the essence, characteristics, and power evoked in each of Jehovah's Redemptive Names. In Exodus 3:13-14, Moses asked God, how he should respond when asked, "What is his name? What shall I say unto them?" God did not hesitate to tell him. When Moses heard the name: 'I AM, ' 1 it spoke volumes to him; he knew that they were in good hands. The Bible says: "And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee..." (Psalms 9:10). As we hallow His name, we are making a demand on the promises and attributes His name denotes; because we belong to Him, we are kept in His name. His name is a strong tower, where the righteous run into it and are safe (Proverbs 18:10). The Lord's Prayer-Revisited will also address seven hindrances of each petition (areas where we fall short of the glory of God.) and seven strategies (ways of escape) of each petition. In addition, it will highlight the seven specific types of prayer each petition evokes. Each prayer gives God access into that particular area of our need. Finally, The Lord's Prayer-Revisited will help you to think like the Master!

Nowhere is Jesus' brilliance more manifest than in the prayer he taught his disciples to pray, the prayer that has come to be known as the "Lord's Prayer." A mere fifty-seven words in the original Greek, the Lord's Prayer gathers up all of life and brings it before God. In eight stirring meditations, Darrell Johnson shows how the Lord's Prayer sums up the essence of Christian faith and, when prayed in faith, draws us into draws us into the Triune God's work of transforming the world. NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Pope Francis illuminates the Lord’s Prayer, the most important prayer in all of Christianity, offering readers a guide to living a life of meaning, purpose and strength. In conversation with Father Marco Pozza, a theologian and prison chaplain in Padua, Italy, Pope Francis offers unprecedented insight into Jesus’s most profound words, as he explores the importance of embracing social justice, benevolence, and forgiveness in our hearts and minds. Looking to address the concerns and hopes of today’s men and women, Our Father: Reflections on the Lord’s Prayer is a guide to living a life full of meaning, purpose, and strength. “We need courage to pray the Our Father,” writes Pope Francis, “to truly believe that God is the Father who accompanies us, forgives us, gives us bread, is attentive to all that we ask, clothes us even better than the flowers of the field. To believe is a big risk.” Challenging this doubt and fear, he issues a call to “dare . . . help oneanother to dare.” With excerpts from some of the Pontiff’s most cherished teachings, this beautiful work offers words of encouragement and inspiration for all who are seeking hope and direction in our often tumultuous world.

Close our eyes and most of us can recite the Lord's Prayer by heart. It is as familiar as childhood memories. In some church traditions, we say the prayer together nearly every week, as a community standing before God. We call on those so familiar words and the comfort and direction they offer. The comfort that God is holy, that his kingdom is coming, that he provides just enough, and that he can protect us from ourselves and from evil. The direction that we are to worship him, that we are part of this kingdom-coming work, that we have the discipline of forgiveness as almost a daily task, and that we are vulnerable to temptation, so being on guard is a fine idea. The Wycliffe College faculty featured in this book take the Lord's Prayer line by line and excavate it for its forgotten meaning and its neglected treasure. Each brief essay, pondering each line of this foundational prayer, guides us more deeply into the very things the Lord's Prayer requests: a sense of God's holiness, a sense of our own truest selves--broken and redeemed--and a glimpse of his kingdom, coming.
