This is one health manual every man, woman, son or daughter should have. It is a great gift to loving parents. Did you know there has been a considerable amount of research to try to discover why women have hot flushes? Many women will tell you they become very anxious and concerned. One reason why menopause is the cause of anxiety and fear among many women is during this time there are significant changes in hormones and she has no control over it because it is natural. Andropause or male menopause is different from menopause in that not all men experience andropause in the same way and age. Men are trained and told at a tender age to withhold and hide their true feelings, whereas women are more open and willing to express how they are feeling. The secret of health for both mind, body, soul and spirit is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly. This book is packed with great info. Get your copy now!

Years of involvement, firsthand experience and research at the Menopause Clinic of the Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, exist as the background to this book. The Clinic itself, however, as one of the first in the world to be established, if not the first, has a story and a lesson of its own to offer, and is therefore deserving of a brief description as the preface to the book. In 1967, shortly after Christiaan Barnard had completed the historical first human heart transplant at the Groote Schuur Hospital, I happened to be in West Berlin and was invited to visit a major international pharmaceutical firm. A new female hormone was mentioned, and thereby started my interest in the subject. Upon my return to Cape Town, I spent many hours in the large medical school library and completely surveyed the menopause literature to 1967. I was stunned by its general inadequacy and was bitten by a challenge to clarify what menopause really was, and to define the proper place of hormone replacement therapy.

There seem to be as many books catering to women readers about menopause, as there are variations of how women experience menopause. I guess that's why women differ on how long they go through menopause; it lasts until they find the book that describes precisely how they are going through it, and then they can be cured. But I have yet to find a book that helps men get through menopause. And why is the word "men" in the word "menopause"? It's because we men are blazing through life, having just grasped our second wind after navigating through our own mid-life crisis. Then all of a sudden, we're blasted by some unknown force that comes out of nowhere. It stops us dead in our tracks. We are suddenly "men-on-pause": dumb-founded and fear-stricken, facing a series of life-storms that no one prepared us for because no one ever used to talk about it. Over the past few years, the silence has been broken for women. It's time that it was broken for men.
