Elizabeth MacLennan was one of the founder members of the theatre company 7:84, created in 1971 to bring plays in performance to working-class audiences. The company was named after the proposition that 7% of the population in Britain owns 84% of the wealth. Quite early in its history the company divided into two - one based in Scotland performing both in the villages of the Highlands and the towns and cities of the Lowlands, and the other based in England.
