Too filthy to be a fairytale... I’m Prince Maximillian Rochartè of Bellèno. The tabloids claim I'm alpha, arrogant, but the reality is I make royal dilemmas disappear. The monarchy borrowed millions, loans are due, and an old-fashioned marriage of convenience might save us all. Lord Fontaine will fork over a fortune in exchange for marrying his beloved daughter Cici to my brother, playboy Prince Leo. I fly to the States and talk Cici into my scheme. She's down with it -- just needs a little time to clear up loose ends. I'm parked at a Chicago biker bar when I spot Vivian -- a pretty waitress who could be Cici's twin -- pour a pitcher of margaritas on some entitled a**'s head. She's out of a job. I hire her to impersonate Cici for a few weeks. Small problem -- Vivian's feisty, funny and our chemistry's off the charts. In spite of my unrelenting lust I somehow manage to turn her into a 'Lady.' Vivian and I travel back to Bellèno, but weeks have passed, and Cici’s a no-show. I know in the depths of my deceitful heart that I'm falling in love with Vivian. Unfortunately, my brother is too... In presenting the ideal skills, abilities, and qualities of a successful politico, The Capitol Hill Playbook speaks to today’s generation of staffers like no other book before it. Weaving together Renaissance-era political philosophies and contemporary illustrations, Nicholas Balthazar enlists the help of Niccolò Machiavelli, author of the venerable political treatise The Prince, and Baldassare Castiglione, author of The Book of the Courtier—the authoritative account of Renaissance court life—to demonstrate two models of political life and their applicability today. Balthazar offers readers a path between these two methods, exploring the mechanics of working for elected officials but also discussing the philosophies behind contemporary political work. The Capitol Hill Playbook answers all the questions a newly hired staffer might want to ask: • Why do politicians run for office? • Why is devotion so important in politics? • Why must a staffer be a good communicator? • Why are friendships such an essential and elusive part of political life? • How do you win a political knife fight? • Why should a political staffer never wear a bow tie to the office? • And more! A provocative and informative read, The Capitol Hill Playbook will be indispensible to any political aspirant and, with an intriguing look back to the Renaissance, reveals how politics today has both changed and remained the same through the centuries.

This book is the first comprehensive examination of commercial drama as a reading genre in early modern England. Taking as its focus pre-Restoration printed drama’s most common format, the single-play quarto playbook, it interrogates what the form and content of these playbooks can tell us about who their earliest readers were, why they might have wanted to read contemporary commercial drama, and how they responded to the printed versions of plays that had initially been performed in the playhouses of early modern London. Focusing on professional plays printed in quarto between 1584 and 1660, the book juxtaposes the implications of material and paratextual evidence with analysis of historical traces of playreading in extant playbooks and manuscript commonplace books. In doing so, it presents more detailed and nuanced conclusions than have previously been enabled by studies focused on works by one author or on a single type of evidence.

A pianist in lounges and lobbies around the world, Robin Meloy Goldsby tells her warm-hearted stories by linking people she has met with places she has played. Along the way, she connects the humanity of her audiences—princes and paupers, dreamers and doers, moguls, mobsters, wanna-bes, and has-beens—with the quiet soundtrack of her peripatetic, melodic life. Goldsby's autobiographical stories and essays deliver insights into the art and craft of piano playing, the merits of live music, and how the right song at the right moment can add color and depth to a drab, one dimensional world. Music, it turns out, connects us in unpredictable ways.
