There is no change that doesn't begin in the darkness of the human soul. The necessity for the confrontation with the Shadow has been known by all cultures in all times and recorded in their myths and legends. When the obligation to become whole is laid upon an individual, the first task he must undertake is to confront his Shadow. The Shadow's Gift: Find Who You really Are is about the Shadow contained in each of us, and why we must each join with our shadow, the archetype of darkness and evil in order to become whole. This heroic process is crucial as the projection or denial of the Shadow twists its true meaning into a destructive, counter-evolutionary force. While it initially appears to us as loathsome and despicable, it actually contains all our future potentialities for development. Perhaps more than any other, Robin Robertson discusses it from a the perspective of a belief in the inherent potential good of the Shadow and its ability to assist us in our quest for self-actualization. This disjunction prompts Faubion to investigate how the mainstream came to confine religion to an inner and other-worldly faith--an inquiry that allows him to account for the irrationalization of millennialism. Against this historical background, we can discern the genealogy of Adventist millennialism and make sense of contemporary religious events, including the actions of a small group in the central Texas prairie.

Also set in the southeast, primarily on both coasts of southern Florida, Rory is bitter when she receives no response from Maggie but notices that lines of her poems begin appearing in the singer's songs. In both novels, all characters eventually give up illusions and false patterns of behavior in these chilling stories, regarding the relevance of mass recognition and inordinate acclaim and adulation.
