I do not think, however, that his knowledge influenced his psychometric vision. POMPEIIAN FISHERS AND POTTERS AT WORK. APRIL 23, 1873. In the morning I gave him the piece of mosaic from Pompeii. In about a minute he said, " I cannot see plain at all." I then presented him with a fragment from the top of a Corinthian column; also from Pompeii. He said, " I seem to be in a stone quarry. It must be near this time; for I see men with iron tools, --hammers and chisels. They are cutting some very pretty things out of the blocks. " I am on a bridge now. (I cannot see well at all.") In the afternoon I tried him with the specimen of mosaic again. Immediately he said, " I saw before I got it to my forehead. " I am on the bank of a river; and I see some nets. I do not know whether it is the same place that I was at before or not. "I see some people fishing in a boat now: it is a very queer boat indeed. (Draws Fig. 17.) It looks as much like a bath-tub as any thing I know of. They have a net that is round, --large at one end, and gradually diminishing to the other. It is kept open by hoops. There is a bag at the end; and that is just full of fish, and they are queer fish too. They untie the bag, and the fish come right out. Many of the fish are like eels, and crawl round the boat like snakes; and the men are hitting them. " These men have many nets in the river, and they keep going from one to another.
