It is to the Saktas what Srimad Devi Bhagavatam is to Vaisnavas. Opinions about the date of its composition vary; however it can be safely said that it attained its present shape sometime during the eleventh century AD. Its ideas trace source from all the major works of ancient India-the Vedas, the Epics and the Puranas.
