This book was instigated by numerous heart-to-heart conversations with sisters, mothers and people from various walks of life. It was initially a preparation for a 2-page talk that I was to deliver at a fellowship session with certain ladies. My aim was to proffer a testament of something that I had discerned, that I yearn to have recognised from the time I started dating. As I began the writing process, I soon surmised that there was much to reflect on. This prompted me to reflect on my journey as a single woman, as well as that of men and women like me. The process incited difficult and challenging questions concerning the reason for my existence and the mission which I am intended to accomplish with my life. Whilst I cannot say I have all the answers, I made noteworthy and compelling observations which answered some of my questions. However, in some instances I had to make prayers of enquiry for greater wisdom on these matters. I found answers everywhere. I found them in sermons, music, conversations and predominantly in God’s word. I felt compelled to share them

This book examines treasure law and practice from the rise of the new science of archaeology in the early Victorian period to the present day. Drawing on largely-unexamined state records and other archives, the book covers several legal jurisdictions: England and Wales, Scotland, Ireland pre- and post-independence, and post-partition Northern Ireland. From the Mold gold cape (1833) to the Broighter hoard (1896), from Sutton Hoo (1939) to the Galloway hoard (2014), the law of treasure trove, and the Treasure Act 1996, are considered through the prism of notable archaeological discoveries, and from the perspectives of finders, landowners, archaeologists, museum professionals, collectors, the state, and the public. Literally and metaphorically, treasure law is revealed as a ground-breaking chapter in the history of the legal protection of cultural property and cultural heritage in Britain and Ireland.

“Klasky keeps you entranced from start to finish.” — Romantic Times Librarian Jane Madison found out she’s a witch, and now her life is turning upside down. The local coven has delivered an offer she can’t refuse—work a major spell on its behalf or lose her beloved arcane books, her sassy feline familiar, and—worst of all—her compelling astral protector, David Montrose. The coven’s test isn’t Jane’s only challenge. Her new boyfriend, a handsome Brit, seems determined to distract her from magic. Her closest witchy friend has a distinctly loose grasp on arcane ethics. And Jane has no idea what to think about her drama-queen mother, her mojito-loving best friend, and her boss’s demands that she step up to the next level at work! Is sorcery the answer to Jane’s problems? Or does magic actually spell “disaster”? If you like romantic comedy, romcom, chicklit, or humorous and funny stories about libraries, librarians, witches, witchcraft, magic, fantasy, supernatural or paranormal events—like The Ex Hex, Payback’s a Witch, or Practical Magic—you will love this book! Did you know that aspersions are always cast, umbrage is always taken and the only thing that’s madding is a crowd? All this and more can be explored in Single-context Words: A Study of a Quirk of the English Language, which uncovers the stories behind numerous words which are only ever used in one context. Ian Yearsley has spent 15 years collecting and researching single-context words and has written up over 300 examples in this volume. He explains how they came about and gives examples of their usage, with special reference throughout to the different parts of speech and how some suit single-context words better than others. The book explores a hitherto unexplored aspect of language and would be ideal as a gently humorous reference book, an educational work or an amusing, quirky gift book. This unique and compelling collection complements the existing body of language publications and is for anyone and everyone who has a love of and a fascination for language.

This new book explores basic issues in the use of single-system designs by practitioners in field settings. Single-System Designs in the Social Services addresses current methodological and practice issues involving single-system designs (SSDs). It reviews the history of SSDs and discusses future issues and options in the evaluation of practice in social service settings using SSDs. The book provides an intellectual frame of reference to understand the place of SSDs in contemporary social work practice and examines the application of SSDs to nonbehavioral methods of practice, the use of SSDs in family practice, the connection of SSDs and computers, and criticism (and response) regarding SSDs. While single-system designs are easy to use in many kinds of client situations, their use also raises many important issues. Chapters in this book address such issues and provide tentative suggestions to resolve them by answering such questions as: What are the ethical principles for using single-system designs with clients? How can the parallel revolution in high technology be connected to single-system designs? Do graduates of schools of social work actually use these methods after graduation? Are there practical short-cuts to using these modes of evaluation? How applicable are single-system designs to non-behaviorally oriented practitioners? How can single-system designs be applied to families? Social work educators are mandated by their accrediting organizations to teach students to evaluate their own practice. This book addresses the tough issues in fulfilling that mandate through instruction in single-system designs, discussing topics often not covered in-depth by textbooks. Social work practitioners, researchers, and educators in applied social science such as social work and clinical psychology, will find this a valuable book to help them sort out the myriad issues surrounding the use of single-system designs.

Inspired by the current public fascination with single women, Single Lives traces the relationship between modern and contemporary representations of single women. The original essays collected here analyze a broad range of texts that examine the ways films, cookbooks, archives, popular literature, and other British and American texts express norms, ideals, and challenges for single women and their relationship to dominant ideals of marriage and the family. This volume looks backwards to constellate existing scholarship, constituent fields, and unrecognized single voices and forward to consider new methods for interdisciplinary singles studies.
