“Constant Words Awakening the World (醒世恒言 Xing Shi Heng Yan) is the third of a trilogy of widely celebrated Ming dynasty (1368–1644) vernacular story collections, compiled and edited by Feng Menglong. The first compilation, called Gujin Xiaoshuo (古今小説) (Stories Old and New), which is sometimes also referred to as Yushi Mingyan (喻世明言) (Clear Words to Understand the World) was published in Suzhou in 1620. The second publication was called Jingshi Tongyan (警世通言) (Warnings of the World). These three collections, often referred to as Sanyan (三言, "Three Words") because of the character yan (言) found at the end of each title, each contain 40 stories. Xingshi Hengyan is considered to be a huaben (话本), that is, short novel or novella. The huaben genre has been around since the Song dynasty (960-1279). The huaben genre includes collections of short stories, historical stories, and even stories from Confucian classics.

Complex, even conflicted, this Bond belongs to the post-war world of rationing, trauma, and a growing sense of uncertainty due to social and technological change and the rising tensions of the Cold War. This is the first edition of Casino Royale to include footnotes that provide a larger context for the novel as well as translate its French passages. The edition also includes appendices that provide a number of other works by Fleming and other literary and historical materials that help to situate the spy thriller.

The chief disciple of C. G. Jung, analyst Marie-Louise von Franz uses her vast knowledge of the world of myths, fairy tales, visions, and dreams to examine expressions of the universal symbol of the Anthropos, or Cosmic Man—a universal archetype that embodies humanity's personal as well as collective identity. She shows that the meaning of life—the realization of our fullest human potential, which Jung called individuation—can only be found through a greater differentiation of consciousness by virtue of archetypes, and that ultimately our future depends on relationships, whether between the sexes or among nations, races, religions, and political factions.
