"El presente volumen aborda la traducción e interpretación institucional con un triple enfoque: a) su aplicación social; b) las tendencias profesionales; y, c) la innovación didáctica en la enseñanza universitaria. Respecto a su aplicación social, los primeros capítulos tratan la traducción e interpretación como una herramienta esencial que permite superar barreras tanto lingüísticas como culturales en situaciones de emergencia y acceder a derechos fundamentales mediante el empoderamiento de las mujeres en procedimientos de asistencia y atención en contextos de violencia de género. El posterior análisis y descripción de diversos entornos profesionales en contextos institucionales permiten detectar y extraer las competencias que los profesionales necesitan para poder hacer frente a los nuevos desafíos a los que se enfrentan en el nuevo paisaje profesional dibujado por los acontecimientos históricos de los últimos tiempos. El V Congreso de la Asociación Ibérica de Estudios de Traducción e Interpretación abordó los ámbitos de la metodología, la teoría, la historia y la didáctica de la traducción que se pueden considerar transversales en esta disciplina y que quedan recogidos en el presente volumen. Los artículos buscan promover la reflexión sobre aquellas cuestiones más o menos presentes en las distintas ramificaciones temáticas de la traducción y la interpretación, sin estar circunscritas a una sola área de especialidad.

The demands of today’s society for greater specialization have brought about a profound transformation in the humanities, which are not immune to the competitive pressure to meet new challenges that are present in other sectors. Thus, lecturers and researchers in modern languages and applied linguistics departments have made great efforts to design syllabi and materials more attuned to the competences and requirements of potential working environments. At the same time, linguists have attempted to apply their expertise in wider areas, creating research institutes that focus on applying language and linguistics in different contexts and offering linguistic services to society as a whole. This book attempts to provide a global view of the multiple voices involved in interdisciplinary research and innovative proposals in teaching specialized languages while offering contributions that attempt to fill the demands of a varied scope of disciplines such as the sciences, professions, or educational settings.
