Trafficking In Girls

Focusing on the trafficking of women and girls from a feminist perspective, this book examines how social structures and gender influence human trafficking. While women and girls are not the only victims of trafficking, they tend to be disproportionally represented. Structural inequities – including poverty, gender-based violence, racism, class and caste-based discrimination and other forms of oppression and marginalization – place some individuals at substantially greater risk to be trafficked. The contributors explore topics including trauma-informed assessment of, and therapy with, survivors of human trafficking; issues facing children of trafficked women when they are reintegrated into their communities post-trafficking; the intersection of trafficking with racial and cultural oppression; critical aspects of international sex trafficking; and commercial sexual exploitation of children. The book concludes with a discussion of how human trafficking intersects with both intracountry adoption and brokered marriages. This book was originally published as a special issue of Women & Therapy.

The 2020 UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons is the fifth of its kind mandated by the General Assembly through the 2010 United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons. It covers more than 130 countries and provides an overview of patterns and flows of trafficking in persons at global, regional and national levels, based primarily on trafficking cases detected between 2017 and 2019. As UNODC has been systematically collecting data on trafficking in persons for more than a decade, trend information is presented for a broad range of indicators.

Girl trafficking in Nepal should be viewed not only in its social context but also from ethno-cultural, educational, economic and gender perspectives. Perhaps it should be considered most from a gender perspective, because the terminology "girl's trafficking" itself speaks about the serious violation of women's and girls' rights, sexual exploitation as well as gender-based discrimination.

The UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons 2016 is the third of its kind mandated by the United Nations General Assembly. In July 2010, the UNGA adopted the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons. The Report covers and provides an overview of patterns and flows of trafficking in persons at the global, regional and national levels, based on trafficking cases detected mainly between 2012 and 2014. It looks at links between trafficking in persons, migration and conflict, and how refugees may be particularly vulnerable to being trafficked. The worldwide response to trafficking in persons, particularly in terms of criminalization and prosecution of trafficking crimes, is also a focus of this edition of the Global Report.
