(Faber Piano Adventures ). Adult Piano Adventures Classics Book 1 celebrates great masterworks of Western music, including symphony themes, opera gems, and classical favorites. The melodies of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and other master composers are arranged at just the right level for adult beginners and for those who are returning to the keyboard. Section 1 features piano arrangements with minimal hand position changes, and many selections include an optional duet part. Section 2 introduces the I, IV, and V7 chords in the key of C major, harmonizing themes such as Sibelius's Finlandia, Schubert's The Trout, and Mendelssohn's Spring Song. Section 3 presents the primary chords in the key of G major, with arrangements of Vivaldi's Autumn (from The Four Seasons), Mozart's theme from The Magic Flute, Lizst's Liebestraum, and more.

In the middle of the last century, after hearing a talk of Mostow on one of his rigidity theorems, Borel conjectured in a letter to Serre a purely topological version of rigidity for aspherical manifolds (i.e. manifolds with contractible universal covers). The Borel conjecture is now one of the central problems of topology with many implications for manifolds that need not be aspherical. Since then, the theory of rigidity has vastly expanded in both precision and scope. This book rethinks the implications of accepting his heuristic as a source of ideas. Doing so leads to many variants of the original conjecture - some true, some false, and some that remain conjectural. The author explores this collection of ideas, following them where they lead whether into rigidity theory in its differential geometric and representation theoretic forms, or geometric group theory, metric geometry, global analysis, algebraic geometry, K-theory, or controlled topology.

America's cities are being rapidly transformed by a sinister and homogenous design. A new Kind of urbanism--manipulative, dispersed, and hostile to traditional public space--is emerging both at the heart and at the edge of town in megamalls, corporate enclaves, gentrified zones, and psuedo-historic marketplaces. If anything can be described as a paradigm for these places, it's the theme park, an apparently benign environment in which all is structured to achieve maximum control and in which the idea of authentic interaction among citizens has been thoroughly purged. In this bold collection, eight of our leading urbanists and architectural critics explore the emblematic sites of this new cityscape--from Silicon Valley to Epcot Center, South Street Seaport to downtown Los Angeles--and reveal their disturbing implications for American public life.

This book addresses the continuing call to incorporate diversity issues into the scholarship on the psychology of women. Each chapter takes an inclusive look at one aspect of women's lives and shows how the available research and theory relate or do not relate to diverse groups of women; issues of ethnicity, race, religion, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, and physical ability are examined. The chapters present the state of the literature in psychology and related fields, and authors describe what we know and do not know about issues of diversity in women's experience. The authors and editors themselves represent diverse perspectives. The book includes Joan C. Chrisler and Alyce Huston Hemstreet on women's health needs; Martha E. Banks, Rosalie J. Ackerman, and Carolyn A. Corbett on neuropsychological issues for physically challenged women; Lillian P. Holcomb and Carol B. Giesen on older women and physically challenged women as college students; Ann Marie Orza and Jane W. Torrey on teaching the psychology of women; Rachel Josefowitz Siegel, Sudha Choldin, and Jean H. Orost on the effects of religious ideology on women's psychosocial development; Darlene C. DeFour and Michele A. Paludi on women and achievement; Geraldine Butts Stahly and Gwat-Yong Lie on women and violence; and Suzanna Rose on women's friendships.

Saint-Saëns composed these variations in 1874, based on the trio of the third movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata in E-flat, Op. 31, No. 3. The eight ingenious variations plus fugue, presto, and coda sections constitute brilliant two-piano writing. This edition includes editorial fingering and pedal, as well as an analysis of the form.
