This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the Third International Conference on Vector and Parallel Processing, VECPAR'98, held in Porto, Portugal, in June 1998. The 41 revised full papers presented were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and revision. Also included are six invited papers and introductory chapter surveys. The papers are organized in sections on eigenvalue problems and solutions of linear systems; computational fluid dynamics, structural analysis, and mesh partitioning; computing in education; computer organization, programming and benchmarking; image analysis and synthesis; parallel database servers; and nonlinear problems.

This book is the ?nal outcome of VECPAR 2000 – 4th International Meeting on Vector and Parallel Processing. VECPAR constitutes a series of conferences, which have been organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto since 1993, with the main objective of disseminating new knowledge on parallel computing. Readership of This Book The book is aimed at an audience of researchers and graduate students in a broad range of scienti?c areas, including not only computer science, but also applied mathematics and numerical analysis, physics, and engineering. Book Plan From a total of 66 papers selected on the basis of extended abstracts for p- sentation at the conference, a subset of 34 papers were chosen during a second review process leading to their inclusion in the book, together with the invited talks. The book contains a total of 40 papers organized into 6 chapters, where each may appeal to people in di?erent but still related scienti?c areas. All ch- ters, with the exception of Chapter 6, are initiated by a short text, providing a quick overview of the organization and papers in the chapter. The 13 papers in Chapter 1 cover the aspects related to the use of multiple processors. Operating systems, languages and software tools for scheduling, and code transformation are the topics included in this chapter, initiated by the talk on computing over the Internet, entitled Grid Computing,byIan Foster.

This book constitutes a carefully arranged selection of revised full papers chosen from the presentations given at the Second International Conference on Vector and Parallel Processing - Systems and Applications, VECPAR'96, held in Porto, Portugal, in September 1996. Besides 10 invited papers by internationally leading experts, 17 papers were accepted from the submitted conference papers for inclusion in this documentation following a second round of refereeing. A broad spectrum of topics and applications for which parallelism contributes to progress is covered, among them parallel linear algebra, computational fluid dynamics, data parallelism, implementational issues, optimization, finite element computations, simulation, and visualisation.

The papers are organized in topical sections on fluids and structures, data mining, computing in chemistry and biology, problem solving environments, computational linear and non-linear algebra, cluster computing, imaging, and software tools and environments.

Euro-Parisaninternationalconferencededicatedtothepromotionandadvan- ment of all aspects of parallel computing. The major themes can be divided into the broad categories of hardware, software, algorithms and applications for p- allel computing. The objective of Euro-Par is to provide a forum within which to promote the development of parallel computing both as an industrial te- nique and an academic discipline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. This is particularly important at a time when parallel computing is undergoing strong and sustained development and experiencing real industrial take-up. The main audience for and participants in Euro-Parareseenasresearchersinacademicdepartments,governmentlabora- ries and industrial organisations. Euro-Par’s objective is to become the primary choice of such professionals for the presentation of new results in their specic areas. Euro-Par is also interested in applications which demonstrate the e - tiveness of the main Euro-Par themes. Euro-Par is now sponsored by the Association of Computer Machinery and the International Federation of Information Processing. Euro-Par’99 The format of Euro-Par’99follows that of the past four conferences and consists of a number of topics eachindividually monitored by a committee of four. There were originally 23 topics for this year’s conference. The call for papers attracted 343 submissions of which 188 were accepted. Of the papers accepted, 4 were judged as distinguished, 111 as regular and 73 as short papers.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Parallel Computation, ACPC'99, held in Salzburg, Austria in February 1999; the conference included special tracks on parallel numerics and on parallel computing in image processing, video processing, and multimedia. The volume presents 50 revised full papers selected from a total of 75 submissions. Also included are four invited papers and 15 posters. La proliferación actual de sistemas concurrentes, en general debido al abaratamiento sustancial de poderosos sistemas de cómputo, y el auge, cada vez mayor, que toman las aplicaciones distribuidas, hace que cada vez sea más interesante el estudio de los sistemas concurrentes en todos los aspectos de la Informática. La mayor complejidad y tamaño de los secuenciales convencionales exige el uso de técnicas adecuadas tanto para su diseño y análisis, como para su posterior implementación práctica. Este libro contiene las comunicaciones que han sido presentadas en la Octava edición de las Jornadas de Concurrencia, celebradas en Cuenca en junio de 2000. Este es un foro para el intercambio de experiencias entre los investigadores nacionales tanto de la Universidad como de la Industria en el campo de los sistemas concurrentes, y por tanto en él se muestran tanto los resultados teóricos como las aplicaciones industriales más recientes en esta materia.
