As the chief rival to NATO from 1955 - 1991, the Warsaw Pact was, and has since remained, a popular subject for military students and historians alike. On the collecting market the vast range of awards, badges and insignia produced during the Cold War has helped to make the national armies of the Warsaw Pact a popular choice with many military specialists. Surprisingly, even though a great deal has been written about the armor, weapons, uniforms and equipment, no comprehensive reference source on the subject of badges has been printed in the English language.

While much has been published on the armed forces of the USSR during the 1980s, surprisingly little is available on the forces supplied by the other member nations of the Warsaw Pact. Rivalling the size of the United States Army, the combined ground forces of the six non-Soviet Warsaw Pact countries totalled over 775,000 active troops, with almost two million ground forces reserves. This book examines the history, organization and uniforms of the often overlooked DDR, Czechoslovak, Polish, Bulgarian, Hungarian and Romanian forces at the end of the Cold War.

This book (Volume Two) gives an historical overview of 51 countries whose armed forces served in Europe 1900-2000, together with uniform descriptions. Includes 204 full colour paintings of the regular armies, marines, airforce and para-military troops engaged in land exercises, operations and warfare in Europe, including non-European troops serving in Europe. Each entry is accompanied by a history and description of the uniforms illustrated. The author and illustrator Ron Kidd, has been interested in both police and military history, uniforms and insignia since he was a school boy in the 1950's. He has visited over 300 police and military museums world-wide, and has written and illustrated a number of magazine articles on both police and military history and uniforms. He is a member of both the Military Heraldry Society and the Military Historical Society.

This book is a reprint of information on the Chinese Army and Navy compiled by the United States Defense Department in 1976. It contains a information on the uniforms and decorations of, the weapons used by, the tactics, and the organization of the Peoples Liberation Army of China, (PLA). The book is well supplemented by color prints of all the different uniforms and decorations, maps and organization charts of the various units of the PLA. The book is very current and brings the reader up to 1980, showing the latest Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) and other shorter range missiles which were being developed by China as of the late 1970s.
