Hitch a ride with JW Palmer on a journey of love, joy, pain and awakening, as he rides his bicycle alone across the heartland of America. Bewildered by the blur of events -- two years in Vietnam, four years in college, and six in a mind-numbing marriage -- he was suffering from PTSD. As his wheels turn, he untangles his mind and emotions one revolution at a time. Through a succession of vignettes we get to peer into his soul, as he struggles to evolve within the chrysalis of the '70s. Disillusioned after finishing college in 1974, he and his wife split up and he went looking for answers. As he fights his mind, the wind and the terrain, he meets the amazing people and animals who live in the middle of the country. People are interested in his story, and the shy poet evolves into a skilled storyteller, telling them about his trip and us about his search for the light at the end of the tunnel, as he finds out that the light he is looking for is within ...blazing away like the sun shining at midnight. Driven by gold fever, he embarks on a series of exciting adventures, from the vast wilderness of Alaska to exotic landscapes in South America, Africa, India, Australia, and back to the Klondike. Although his obsession to find gold develops into greed, his travels have a maturing effect on the callow youth. After many hardships have ravished his body and frustration of his goal to strike it rich, Stefan responds to the outcry of his neglected soul. Instead of riches he achieves spiritual peace.

Max wakes up early one northern summer morning and is surprised to find the rest of his family still asleep. He heads back to bed, but cannot sleep with the sun shining through his curtains! This leads to an adventure, as Max tries to find a way to keep the sunshine out of his bedroom. Through this, Max eventually finds a way to get some rest, and also learns that the sun shines all day and night during summer months in Canada's north.

On the longest day of the year, a young Alaskan girl stays up late and enjoys the midnight sun.
