Accepting relentless impermanence as the ground of human experience, Words from the Soul derives a spiritual psychology from the mystery and poignancy of time-passage itself. Drawing from Wittgenstein, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Foucault, Dostoyevsky, Buddhism, kundalini yoga, and twenty-five years of clinical/mediation experience, the author's epigrammatic insights into our struggles with mortality, gratitude, apology, and forgiveness make this book relevant to psychotherapy and conflict resolution in a wide range of professional settings. In his exploration of the furthest-reaches of human development, Stuart Sovatsky reveals the deepest potentials of the ensouled body, transforming our views of language, sexuality, ecstatic spiritualities, and of the human life cycle.

‘The Words of My Soul’ is the in-direct telling of “my-story.” It is a story told through a compilation of spoken-word pieces that I have written over the years. It includes memories from the earliest part of my life to the person I am today. I recall feeling as though I had stepped into a world shrouded in darkness, secrecy and in dirt and rightfully so since the circumstances that surrounded my young life were, indeed, violent and traumatic. My journey begins in a way that would take me years to understand and many more to begin talking about. The story I tell, through my spoken-word, is the uncovering of those secrets and the road traveled to find inner-peace and healing.

Words That Change Everything offers hope and practical strategies to help women speak God’s truth to their unbridled and often debilitating emotions. Worry, anxiety, and fear saturate our world today more than ever—from acts of terrorism to economic downturns. But many women face real fears in their own homes—death, illness, job loss, betrayal, rejection, and dozens of other threats that challenge their family’s well being. As women recognize and understand the warnings signs of worry and negative self-talk, they can employ strategies to navigate their overwhelming anxiety and hopeless thoughts. Most Christian women know the Bible encourages them not to worry about anything, but few women know how to respond to their worries, especially in a crisis. Words That Change Everything offers true personal stories with biblical applications to help everyday women understand the purpose of their God-given emotions and identify biblical prayer strategies to help them confront their worries.

Enriched by numerous case studies and years of client experience, this book guides readers to move beyond the tangled web of stories they tell themselves and others about their lives, relationships, illnesses, and disruptive life patterns. Step-by-step, the chapters uncover the origins of behaviors and feelings such as drug or alcohol addiction, failed careers, and depression. Hidden loyalties to people and ideas are introduced as the underlying causes of these obstacles, which cloud the path to success and cause people to believe the stories they tell themselves, eventually losing touch with the truth. Through the examples in this book, readers will learn to acknowledge and embrace truth, spelling out the explicit facts and rejecting the fictions they have created to excuse their failings.

This book shares the life story of Anishinaabe artist Rene Meshake in stories, poetry, and Anishinaabemowin “word bundles” that serve as a dictionary of Ojibwe poetics. Meshake was born in the railway town of Nakina in northwestern Ontario in 1948, and spent his early years living off-reserve with his grandmother in a matriarchal land-based community he calls Pagwashing. He was raised through his grandmother’s “bush university,” periodically attending Indian day school, but at the age of ten Rene was scooped into the Indian residential school system, where he suffered sexual abuse as well as the loss of language and connection to family and community. This residential school experience was lifechanging, as it suffocated his artistic expression and resulted in decades of struggle and healing. Now in his twenty-eighth year of sobriety, Rene is a successful multidisciplinary artist, musician and writer. Meshake’s artistic vision and poetic lens provide a unique telling of a story of colonization and recovery. The material is organized thematically around a series of Meshake’s paintings. It is framed by Kim Anderson, Rene’s Odaanisan (adopted daughter), a scholar of oral history who has worked with Meshake for two decades. Full of teachings that give a glimpse of traditional Anishinaabek lifeways and worldviews, Injichaag: My Soul in Story is “more than a memoir.”
