In our world today, we hear so many hollow words. Words that mean nothing. Words that we are not certain are truthful. Words that try to impress us and others. Words that are weak and powerless. We hear words that are negative and legalistic. I certainly hope the words in this book are not meaningless, empty, and negative. I have intended for the words to bring you peace, love, and insight. I want these words to bring you hope and joy. They are intended for you to live a more fulfilled life. I hope you will find this book to be just what you needed to hear. It is not because I have wisdom, however; I have prayed that the Lord would use these words to be helpful and encouraging. If you have been wounded, I hope you will find these words of comfort. If you have experience prolonged struggles, I hope you will find God is looking after you and wants to give you comfort and peace. If your life is at the crossroad and you need to make a decision to what is right or wrong, please do what is right, not just what feels right to you. New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Through my hurts, my pain, and my sorrows, Jesus has been here with me, holding my hand. He gave me a sparkle of hope. It kept me going and still does. I know my heavenly Father knows where I am. He is my everything. One day as I was driving my city bus downtown Atlanta, I heard the Lord say three times, write a book. My English teacher said I couldn't put two words together. But my heavenly Father said write a book. So the words started to come, so I wrote. In 2005, my dad passed away. Then in 2006, my husband passed away. I didn't write for three years. My first poem I wrote after three years was, "Hey, Jesus do you know I moved!" It felt good to write again. Jesus said, "Martha, it's time to write." It was good to hear my Father's voice again. Thank you, Jesus, for trusting me with your words, the words that touch my heart. I pray that my book will touch your heart as it does mine. And I hope this book brings you A Sparkle of Hope. "The Lord's love never ends; his mercies never stop They are new every morning; Lord, your loyalty is great. I say to myself, The Lord is mine, so I hope in Him. The Lord is good to those who hope in him, to those who seek him." (Lamentations 3:21 25)

Nothing can sap a person's strength and hope quite like a cancer diagnosis--unless it is the energy-stealing chemotherapy and surgeries faced in the fight against cancer. But one can find hope and strength in the pages of Scripture and in the experience of someone who has been there. Strength Renewed is an encouraging devotional for those living in the valley of cancer. Meditations combine Scripture and stories from the author's own experience and can be read in sequential order to move the reader through a typical cancer journey from diagnosis through treatment. Each devotion also stands on its own, so readers can go directly to the entry that speaks to their need. Each devotional includes a short prayer and a Scripture verse for encouragement.
