Examining European art films of the 1950s and 1960s, Mark Betz argues that it istime for film analysis to move beyond prevailing New Wave historiography, mired in outdated notions of nationalism and dragged down by decades of auteurist criticism. Focusing on the cinemas of France and Italy, Betz reveals how the flowering of European art films in the postwar era is inseparable from the complex historical and political frameworks of the time.

Alexander Berkman (1870-1936) was a leading member of the anarchist movement of the 19th and early 20th centuries. He was the lover and close associate of Emma Goldman, a Lithuanianborn anarchist with whom he collaborated frequently and organized civil rights and anti-war campaigns. In 1892, he attempted to assassinate Henry Clay Frick in retaliation for his involvement with the Homestead Strike: Berkman subsequently served a fourteen-year sentence. During World War I he was deported along with Goldman and other foreign-born American anarchists as a result of the Anarchist Exclusion Act. His works include: Prison Memoirs of an Anarchist (1912), The Bolshevik Myth (Diary 1920-1922) (1925) and Now and After: The ABC of Communist Anarchism (1929).

Hollywood isn't all about the A-list internationally famous actors and directors, highly paid writers, powerful producers. No, it's also about the failures, the inhabitants of the periphery, the bottom layers of the entertainment pyramid. That's the role Nicholas Kolya reluctantly played for the last decade. Follow his struggle at the margins of the entertainment industry, a nether region inhabited by washed-up game show hosts and once-perky child stars, professional monkey writers and drug-addicted talent agents. From the crummy sets of direct-to-video puppet movies to pitch meetings at major studios, laugh at his failures as he reaches, and reaches, and reaches, for that elusive golden ring Hollywood success.

This collection of essays and reviews represents the most significant and comprehensive writing on Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors. Miola's edited work also features a comprehensive critical history, coupled with a full bibliography and photographs of major productions of the play from around the world. In the collection, there are five previously unpublished essays. The topics covered in these new essays are women in the play, the play's debt to contemporary theater, its critical and performance histories in Germany and Japan, the metrical variety of the play, and the distinctly modern perspective on the play as containing dark and disturbing elements. To compliment these new essays, the collection features significant scholarship and commentary on The Comedy of Errors that is published in obscure and difficulty accessible journals, newspapers, and other sources. This collection brings together these essays for the first time.
