MultiTemp is a series of workshop (established in 2001) that provides a forum of discussion of scientific, methodological, and application issues related to multitemporal data analysis The workshop aims to push novel solutions for technical problems related to the analysis of image time series and promotes the use of the multitemporal data in an ever increasing number of strategic and challenging applications, strengthening the connection between the scientfiic community, the industry and the end users.

The Fifth International Symposium on Recent Advances in Quantitative Remote Sensing was held in Torrent, Spain from 18 to 22 September 2018. It was sponsored and organized by the Global Change Unit (GCU) from the Image Processing Laboratory (IPL), University of Valencia (UVEG), Spain. This Symposium addressed the scientific advances in quantitative remote sensing in connection with real applications. Its main goal was to assess the state of the art of both theory and applications in the analysis of remote sensing data, as well as to provide a forum for researcher in this subject area to exchange views and report their latest results. In this book 89 of the 262 contributions presented in both plenary and poster sessions are arranged according to the scientific topics selected. The papers are ranked in the same order as the final programme.

OBIA, based on image segmentation and as an important remote sensing monitoring technology, has been widely used in forestry, vegetation, wetland, urban, crop, conservation, ecology, and agriculture areas. Although OBIA has considerably progressed in the past 20 years, OBIA still much room for further development, regardless of the technological aspect of OBIA or the prospective expansion field of applications. Therefore, this book was organized to further encourage OBIA technology development and expand OBIA applications. This book collects a total of eight papers, which compile the current state-of-the-art research and technology in the area of image segmentation, and highlight prominent current application directions. Therefore, this book not only contains innovative methods, but also covers the innovation of application-driven OBIA technology. The eight papers in this highlight both the popular applications (urban, vegetation, ecology) and several subjects that require additional research attention (landslide, arid-land).

This book presents novel communication technology solutions to address the effects of climate change and climate variability on agriculture, with a particular focus on those that increase agricultural production. It discusses decision support and early warning systems for agriculture; information technology (IT) supporting sustainable water management and land cover dynamics; predictive of crop production models; and software applications for reducing the effects of diseases and pests on crops. Further topics include the real-time monitoring of weather conditions and water quality, as well as food security issues. Featuring the proceedings of the International Conference of ICT for Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change (AACC’17), held on November 22–24, 2017, in Popayán, Colombia, the book represents a timely report and a source of new ideas and solutions for both researchers and practitioners active in the agricultural sector around the globe.
