This beautifully written, emotional debut perfect for fans of Lynda Mullaly Hunt or Ali Benjamin tells the story of a girl, her special needs brother, and the summer they will never forget. "An engaging, honest book." --Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, Newbery Honor-winning author of The War That Saved My Life "A beautiful story of family, forgiveness, life on an island, and growing up.”--Kate Messner, author of Breakout and The Seventh Wish Cat and her brother Chicken have always had a very special bond--Cat is one of the few people who can keep Chicken happy. When he has a "meltdown" she's the one who scratches his back and reads his favorite story. She's the one who knows what Chicken needs. Since their mom has had to work double-hard to keep their family afloat after their father passed away, Cat has been the glue holding her family together. But even the strongest glue sometimes struggles to hold. When a summer trip doesn't go according to plan, Cat and Chicken end up spending three weeks with grandparents they never knew. For the first time in years, Cat has the opportunity to be a kid again, and the journey she takes shows that even the most broken or strained relationships can be healed if people take the time to walk in one another's shoes. From the author of A Christmas Gift from Bob, the original bestseller and heartwarming story of the life-saving friendship between a man and his streetwise cat '[Bob] has entranced London like no feline since the days of Dick Whittington.' (Evening Standard) 'A heartwarming tale with a message of hope' (Daily Mail) 'Reminded me how amazing having a cat can be' (Glamour) * * * * * * * * The uplifting true story of an unlikely friendship between a man on the streets of Covent Garden and the ginger cat who adopts him and helps him heal his life. Now a major motion picture starring Luke Treadaway. When James Bowen found an injured, ginger street cat curled up in the hallway of his sheltered accommodation, he had no idea just how much his life was about to change. James was living hand to mouth on the streets of London and the last thing he needed was a pet. Yet James couldn't resist helping the strikingly intelligent tom cat, whom he quickly christened Bob. He slowly nursed Bob back to health and then sent the cat on his way, imagining he would never see him again. But Bob had other ideas. Soon the two were inseparable and their diverse, comic and occasionally dangerous adventures would transform both their lives, slowly healing the scars of each other's troubled pasts. A Street Cat Named Bob is a moving and uplifting story that will touch the heart of anyone who reads it. Israel is an orphaned kitten adopted by a girl named Filastin, who provides him with shelter, food, and lots of love. However, month after month, Israel takes over every inch of the house, relegating Filastin to a few uncomfortable corners. One day, the girl decides to rebel and engages in a battle with the feline, only to be defeated. It will only be thanks to the intervention of three women ”experts in complicated solutions” (Africa, Europe, and America) that Filastin and Israel manage to reach an agreement for peaceful coexistence. A fairy tale to never stop believing in peace, Israel is a kitten who, shortly after birth, loses his mother to a wicked man with the intention of exterminating all the cats in the world. It's Filastin, a splendid girl, who finds him hungry and frightened under a sage bush. She has no doubts about what to do: feed him, take care of him, and give him a safe place to live peacefully. Thanks to the love of the young girl, Israel grows strong and beautiful. Day after day, he captures Filastin's heart, and month after month, he also conquers her home. When she realizes it, it's already too late... Translator: Simona Casaccia PUBLISHER: TEKTIME

The idea of writing a short story sparked during one visit to a cobbler some years ago, when I noticed a skinny cat sitting quietly next to its owner, with curiosity and interest on activities around the coffee shop. The thought of how a cat view the world started to develop. Thus began the attempt in writing an animal fiction. The original version was about a day in the life of a cat. It slowly evolved into a story about a cat and its two masters, with periods of misfortune and luck during its short and eventful journey in life. It is narrated through a cats view of the human nature from its numerous encounters and keen observations. My own experience as owner of three domestic cats proved useful in describing the cats behavior and the owner-pet relationship. Likewise the experience of rescuing strays and the multiple visits to veterinarian added more references in the writing. The story is also much about a typical day in the life of ordinary folks in Malaysia, although the protagonist is a lazy cat with cynical view of the humans. The various scenes described in the story were recollections of familiar places in the capital city during the 90s.
