A Deeper Shade of Blue charts the tumultuous years of Chelsea Football Club between 1972 and 1977 when the glittering cup-winning side of the early 70s was broken up, and stars such as Peter Osgood and Alan Hudson departed, along with manager Dave Sexton. It was an era that saw Chelsea relegated to the Second Division while massive debts pushed them to the brink of extinction. But the Blues bounced back with the birth of Eddie McCreadie's brash, young and exciting side, led by the precociously talented Ray 'Butch' Wilkins. McCreadie guided the club back to the First Division only to leave acrimoniously in bizarre circumstances - a golden opportunity spurned by the club's owners. A Deeper Shade of Blue is the eagerly awaited sequel to Neil Fitzsimon's Rhapsody in Blue. It reveals how the author made the difficult transition from adolescence to adulthood as a Chelsea supporter during those turbulent times. We discover how the innocence of youth was replaced by the harsh experience of growing up in 1970s England.

Depression affects women almost twice as often as men, with about one in four women suffering from it in her lifetime. While depression may strike at any time, studies show that women are particularly vulnerable during their childbearing years. Despite the increasing awareness of this deeply concerning issue, many studies and health professionals still continue to focus almost solely on postpartum depression, ignoring the fact that depression is just as likely to affect women while they're trying to conceive and during pregnancy. Now, in this comprehensive, empathetic, and candid book, Dr. Ruta Nonacs, a senior member of the Center for Women's Mental Health at Massachusetts General Hospital and mother of two children herself, confronts the seldom talked-about issues of pregnancy-related depression, including: Becoming pregnant while being treated for depression Infertility-related depression and the effects of fertility treatments Understanding the effects of maternal depression on spouses and family Postpartum depression and anxiety Nonacs also addresses the many complicated issues in a woman's life during the span of her childbearing years -- education, career, marriage, childbearing, and child rearing -- and discusses the ways in which depression often takes hold during potentially stressful times. Nonacs identifies many of the symptoms of depression associated with pregnancy and discusses treatments and cures, as well as ways to minimize effects of depression on family and friends. Straightforward and honest, as well as emotionally sensitive and deeply moving, A Deeper Shade of Blue gives every woman who has suffered from pregnancy-related depression the information she needs to get the best care for herself, during pregnancy and beyond.

At publication, The Control Handbook immediately became the definitive resource that engineers working with modern control systems required. Among its many accolades, that first edition was cited by the AAP as the Best Engineering Handbook of 1996. Now, 15 years later, William Levine has once again compiled the most comprehensive and authoritative resource on control engineering. He has fully reorganized the text to reflect the technical advances achieved since the last edition and has expanded its contents to include the multidisciplinary perspective that is making control engineering a critical component in so many fields. Now expanded from one to three volumes, The Control Handbook, Second Edition brilliantly organizes cutting-edge contributions from more than 200 leading experts representing every corner of the globe. They cover everything from basic closed-loop systems to multi-agent adaptive systems and from the control of electric motors to the control of complex networks. Progressively organized, the three volume set includes: Control System Fundamentals Control System Applications Control System Advanced Methods Any practicing engineer, student, or researcher working in fields as diverse as electronics, aeronautics, or biomedicine will find this handbook to be a time-saving resource filled with invaluable formulas, models, methods, and innovative thinking. In fact, any physicist, biologist, mathematician, or researcher in any number of fields developing or improving products and systems will find the answers and ideas they need. As with the first edition, the new edition not only stands as a record of accomplishment in control engineering but provides researchers with the means to make further advances.

“Reader, you are in good hands! Gillie Haynes in this moving collection of poetry invites us to ‘Step into your moment’ and ‘feel the kiss of the sky.’ Now, that’s ‘Feeling Mighty Free.’ In this second work of art, poet Gillie Haynes presents some new discoveries, challenges, and adventures. She forces us to grow in these readings because ‘our understanding is our truth.’ And like the chameleon in ‘Don’t Block My Shine,’ we can absorb the heat and change our true colors. Yeah! There are times when we may need to ‘adjust the pace and tempo’ as we push and press our way from ‘this deeper shade of blue.’ While there is other times when the ‘energy in boldness”’ is a simple, worry-free faith. We find at the end of ‘The Journey’ that we’re left with a smile. I think God is smiling too.” —Barbara Steinbergen-McKenzie

John Seymour Eldridge began writing poetry and lyrics in Seattle, during the social revolution of the 60’s, when the war in Vietnam was causing turbulent times in the lives of a generation of flower children around the world. The Spiritual leaders of that revolution, our poets and songwriters, were calling for profound changes from within the young men and women in their expansive, Self-aware audience. John Seymour Eldridge, known as “Jack” to his friends, became a conscientious objector to the draft. He was arrested and jailed by the FBI for his beliefs. After his release from prosecution by the ACLU, John lived on the beaches of Hawaii for a year. He was working as a fine dining waiter in the plush hotels of Kailua Kona on the Big Island. Responding to a job offer from the owners of Channel 13 Television, he returned to Seattle and became instrumental in the creation of a well-received Arts & Entertainment Guide for Seattle/Tacoma and the greater Puget Sound area. His expertise was also tapped for work as a Talent Coordinator for Live Programming at the independent TV station. Thus began a career in journalism, covering music and the arts, which encompassed editing and publishing several newspapers, producing video workshops for prominent authors, and the management of a Self-awareness book publishing company. Today, at the age of 70 years young, John continues to write poetry and lyrics, with warmth and sensitivity, that express the insights he has experienced on the Way of Being. This book, Tripping up the Basement Stairs before Dawn, is a result of his awakening.
