A Guide To Understanding The Canadian Environmental Protection Act 1999

Under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999), importers and manufacturers of new substances (chemicals, polymers, biochemicals, biopolymers and animate products of biotechnology) must provide prescribed information to Environment Canada to ensure that the new substances are assessed to determine if they are toxic as defined by CEPA 1999. They must also pay a fee. This guide is intended to help importers and manufacturers to understand the New Substances Fees Regulations and to assist them in determining the applicable fees for notifying a new substance.
