A Mother’s Journey of Love, Death, and Forgiveness By: Jackie Loret de Mola Jackie Loret de Mola’s life was changed forever on September 22, 2017 when her thirty-three-year-old son Frank’s car was hit from behind at a stop in traffic and he later succumbed to his injuries. This book is a collection of her day-to-day journal entries and social media posts that provide an intimate glimpse into the pain and disbelief she felt in the days and weeks that followed. Her raw emotions and thoughts and her forgiveness of the driver are an inspiring testament to the power of faith and love. Although her mommy didn't see the Heavenly being, together they felt the comfort of its presence. On December 14, 2012, Scarlett Lewis experienced something that no parent should ever have to endure: she lost her son Jesse in an act of unimaginable violence. The day started just like any other, but when a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Scarlett’s life changed forever. However, this isn’t a story about a massacre. It’s a story about love and survival. It’s about how to face the impossible, how to find courage when you think you have none, and how to choose love instead of anger, fear, or hatred. Following Jesse’s death, Scarlett went on an unexpected journey, inspired by a simple three-word message he had scrawled on their kitchen chalkboard shortly before he died: Norurting Helin Love (Nurturing Healing Love). What would you do if your life as you knew it changed overnight? Suddenly you went from being the poster child of perfect health to living a medical nightmare day after day for years. My fight through Acute Myeloid Leukemia was not easy, there were days when my faith was tested more than I ever imagined it could be. I was blessed to have a loving family by my side throughout my entire journey. I discovered that my unexpected battle with cancer and the aftermath has shaped me into the mother, wife, and daughter I am today. A person that I could have only dreamed of becoming. I value each and every smile from my children, try to spread compassion and love around like sprinkles. Treat each and every day as a genuine gift from God. I experienced what it felt like to be at death's doorstep. It was extremely lonely and scary. No amount of money or power could change my predicament. I remember lying in my hospital bed at night praying to God with all my might. "God if I make it through this nightmare, I promise to love and cherish every second with my children. I will be patient and kind. I will cherish every breath I get to take on Earth." Well, I tried. I have come to realize I am far from being a perfect mom, wife, daughter and Christian. To this day I still make mistakes and say things I wish hadn't. I continue to fight and strive to be the very best version of me I can possibly be. I am sharing my story of overcoming horrible odds with the hopes of passing on encouragement, faith and love for our Almighty God. It was my Faith and God's Will that brought me through these past four years. I hope my story encourages you to never give up when you are faced with a personal battle. Whether it be a disease or illness, divorce, or layoff it is faith in God, laughter, and baking that will see you through. She is very proud to say she is an AML Leukemia Warrior and Survivor. She is very active in her local Cathoic church, St. Lukes. Tracy loves to work with her hands whether it be in her kitchen or in her salon. She has been a hairdresser for over eighteen years. As she was battling through Leukemia she started to bake and decorate custom decorated sugar cookies. When Matthew was thrown in jail on July 21, 2001, I had mountains of feelings. I knew his life was coming to a boiling point. With drugs, alcohol, stealing and living the wild life he had chosen to live, it couldn't and wouldn't last long. Not with the promise God had given me for his life. This was a promise I was soon going to question. I would even question the very existence of a loving, kind God whom I had believed in all my life, and had raised my children to believe in. Soon, way too soon, my faith would be put to the ultimate test. Do I truly believe? Is He really a God of love and mercy? How could He be so cruel to those He's supposed to love so much? Today, I know the answer to these questions, without any doubt. This is my journey.
