A Pilgrimage Of Justice And Peace

This edited volume includes contributions by scholars, ministers, artists, and NGO workers from around the world who are interested in topics of Mennonitism, peacebuilding, and theologies of nonviolence. The papers published together here reflect the richness and diversity of peacebuilding interests and approaches within the current global Mennonite family and offer interdisciplinary explorations of peace and conflict with attention to historical, theological, and lived perspectives. The book includes papers based upon research and insights that were shared at the Second Global Mennonite Peacebuilding Conference and Festival (2019) at Mennorode in the Netherlands. The findings presented here are structured thematically with attention to key points of current concern and research--including, among others, studies on historical and current peacebuilding efforts pertaining to migration and refugee care, ecological justice, gender justice, interreligious dialogue, church-state relations, and racial justice.

Walking together in faith and solidarity - What does it mean to go on pilgrimage? And further: what does it mean for Christians around the world to understand their discipleship in terms of pilgrimage in God's realm of justice and peace? Fernando Enns is an ordained minister from the Mennonite Church, Germany, and Professor of Peace Theology and Ethics at the Free University of Amsterdam. He also directs the Institute for Peace Church Theology at Hamburg University, Germany, and serves on the central committee of the WCC. Among his related publications is Just Peace: Ecumenical, Intercultural, and Interdisciplinary Perspectives (Pickwick, 2013).

The World Council of Churches and the All Africa Conference of Churches invited young people to contribute to the discussion on the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace, with its three dimensions of celebrating life together -visiting wounds and engaging in transformative action- in the African context. Participants reflected on four closely interrelated themes: Truth and Trauma (peacebuilding), Land and Displacement (economic, ecological justice and migration), Gender Justice, and Racial Justice. This collection of selected essays shares the dreams and aspirations of these young people towards Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want goals. Aspiration 6 of the African Union is for an Africa whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential of African people, especially its women and youth, and caring for children. Poverty, inequality, violent conflicts, climate change, migration, racism, burn-out are just a few of the symptoms showing how living life to the fullest is out of reach for so many people in our world. Is, then, seeking 'fullness of life and justice for all' not a too ambitious project? For nothing less than the wellbeing of humanity - and in extension, the whole of creation - is at stake. On the other hand, we see people responding, acting and struggling for justice, liberation and a more sustainable world. How to make sense of the ideas of fullness of life and justice for all, in light of the many crises humanity currently faces but also the glimpses of positive and hopeful responses? Even more so, how to make sense theologically? In this volume twenty authors reflect on how the notions of fullness of life and justice for all are theoretically conceived and have practically taken form from within Dominican theology and spirituality. The contributions on youth spirituality, contemplation, art as a means to community building, gender, pluralization, populism and management discuss the fullness of life in both its material and spiritual dimensions. The question on justice for all is raised in confrontation with issues such as poverty, migration, ecological threats and the role of virtues in society. In this way, the book aims to uncover a variety of Dominican perspectives as valuable contributions to a broader dialogue on the fullness of life and justice for all.

M.M. Thomas was one of the chief architects of the modern ecumenical movement.
