As a creative prayer compendium, Eucharistic Adoration: Holy Hour Meditations on the Seven Last Words of Christ invites readers to spend a holy hour in eucharistic adoration while meditating on the seven last words of Jesus and shows them how to do it.Like many devotions that fell out of favor after the Second Vatican Council, eucharistic adoration has seen swelling popularity in recent years. Msgr. Charles Murphy, author of the acclaimed The Spirituality of Fasting, reintroduces this practice for today. Offering a simple guide for those new to eucharistic devotion, he brings together insightful holy hour meditations on the seven last words of Jesus with the profiles of seven modern Christians known for their devotion to the eucharist, including Simone Weil, Edith Stein, Dorothy Day, Blessed John XXIII, Blessed John Paul II, Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, and St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.

"I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament." —J.R.R. Tolkien Eucharistic adoration according to Fr. Frederick Faber is “the queen of all devotions.” Pope St. Pius X taught that it was the devotion “most profitable for our salvation.” And St. Gemma Galgani treasured it as “the school of Paradise where one learns how to love.” So many popes and saints exhort us to spend time with our Eucharistic Lord. And the Manual for Eucharistic Adoration will enrich your hours with Him. Part One, “Preparing for Eucharistic Adoration,” answers these questions: -What is Eucharistic adoration, and why is it so important? -What does Scripture teach about this devotion? -What are the fruit of Eucharistic adoration? -How should I spend my time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament? Part Two, “Aids in Eucharistic Adoration,” provides these essential resources: -Teaching about the Eucharist from Scripture and Church documents -Scripture verses for adoration, wisdom and inspiration from saints especially devoted to our Eucharistic Lord -Prayers, Rosary meditations, reflections and hymns Mother Teresa once said: “The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth.” Take this great saint’s words to heart. Then take the Manual for Eucharistic Adoration when you go to meet Him, and keep it with you Spiritual Communions and other moments of spontaneous adoration throughout the day.

Adoration is the second volume of the Deconstruction of Christianity, following Dis-Enclosure. The first volume attempted to demonstrate why it is necessary to open reason up not to a religious dimension but to one transcending reason as we have been accustomed to understanding it; the term "adoration" attempts to name the gesture of this dis-enclosed reason. Adoration causes us to receive ignorance as truth: not a feigned ignorance, perhaps not even a "nonknowledge," nothing that would attempt to justify the negative again, but the simple, naked truth that there is nothing in the place of God, because there is no place for God. The outside of the world opens us in the midst of the world, and there is no first or final place. Each one of us is at once the first and the last. Each one, each name. And our ignorance is made worse by the fact that we do not know whether we ought to name this common and singular property of all names. We must remain in this suspense, hesitating between and stammering in various possible languages, ultimately learning to speak anew. In this book, Jean-Luc Nancy goes beyond his earlier historical and philosophical thought and tries to think-or at least crack open a little to thinking-a stance or bearing that might be suitable to the retreat of God that results from the self-deconstruction of Christianity. Adoration may be a manner, a style of spirit for our time, a time when the "spiritual" seems to have become so absent, so dry, so adulterated. The book is a major contribution to the important strand of attempts to think a "post-secular" situation of religion.
