Afro-Greeks examines the reception of Classics in the English-speaking Caribbean, from about 1920 to the beginning of the 21st century. Emily Greenwood focuses on the ways in which Greco-Roman antiquity has been put to creative use in Anglophone Caribbean literature, and relates this regional classical tradition to the educational context, specifically the way in which Classics was taught in the colonial school curriculum. Discussions of Caribbean literature tend to assume an antagonistic relationship between Classics, which is treated as a legacy of empire, and Caribbean literature. While acknowledging the importance of this imperial context, Greenwood argues that Caribbean appropriations of Classics played an important role in formulating original, anti-colonial and anti-imperial criticism in Anglophone Caribbean fiction. Afro-Greeks reveals how, in the twentieth century, two generations of Caribbean writers, including Kamau Brathwaite, Austin Clarke, John Figueroa, C. L. R. James, V. S. Naipaul, Derek Walcott and Eric Williams, created a distinctive, regional counter-tradition of reading Greco-Roman Classics.

In Africa In The Mediterranean, VKY explores the deep origins of the Black minorities found in Avato, Grecce and the Afro-Turks. Though described as the descendants of African Zanj slaves brought in the area by the Ottomans, they are the remnants of an ancient Mediterranean race which has been present in the area since the Late Bronze Age and whose roots could be found in Ancient Egypt and Canaan. The study leads the reader to discover unknown Black remnants in Albania, Montenegro, Georgia, Turkey, Greece and Cyprus.

This book shall explore the evidence for African and Afro-Canaanite formative influences on Crete and mainland Greece. This book differs from Martin Bernal's Black Athena in five fundamental ways:1) Our Egyptians are, as Anu M'Bantu would say, Unmistakably Black! Bernal's are somewhat Black.2) The main Egyptian players in this study are NOT the Hyksos.3) This study openly acknowledges and emphasizes the Afro-Canaanite origin of the Phoenicians.4) It posits SEVEN different Black origins and influences on Greek civilization.5) It shows, with commentary, 42 colour pictures of obviously influential people of African appearance depicted in the art of ALL the various phases of Greek culture. This book is a must read for all those interested in Black history!
