J. Frank Adams had a profound influence on algebraic topology, and his work continues to shape its development. The International Symposium on Algebraic Topology held in Manchester during July 1990 was dedicated to his memory, and virtually all of the world's leading experts took part. This two volume work constitutes the proceedings of the symposium; the articles contained here range from overviews to reports of work still in progress, as well as a survey and complete bibliography of Adam's own work. These proceedings form an important compendium of current research in algebraic topology, and one that demonstrates the depth of Adams' many contributions to the subject. This second volume is oriented towards homotopy theory, the Steenrod algebra and the Adams spectral sequence. In the first volume the theme is mainly unstable homotopy theory, homological and categorical.

This comprehensive two-volume book deals with algebra, broadly conceived. Volume 1 (Chapters 1–6) comprises material for a first year graduate course in algebra, offering the instructor a number of options in designing such a course. Volume 1, provides as well all essential material that students need to prepare for the qualifying exam in algebra at most American and European universities. Volume 2 (Chapters 7–13) forms the basis for a second year graduate course in topics in algebra. As the table of contents shows, that volume provides ample material accommodating a variety of topics that may be included in a second year course. To facilitate matters for the reader, there is a chart showing the interdependence of the chapters.

This is the second of three volumes devoted to elementary finite p-group theory. Similar to the first volume, hundreds of important results are analyzed and, in many cases, simplified. Important topics presented in this monograph include: (a) classification of p-groups all of whose cyclic subgroups of composite orders are normal, (b) classification of 2-groups with exactly three involutions, (c) two proofs of Ward's theorem on quaternion-free groups, (d) 2-groups with small centralizers of an involution, (e) classification of 2-groups with exactly four cyclic subgroups of order 2n > 2, (f) two new proofs of Blackburn's theorem on minimal nonmetacyclic groups, (g) classification of p-groups all of whose subgroups of index p2 are abelian, (h) classification of 2-groups all of whose minimal nonabelian subgroups have order 8, (i) p-groups with cyclic subgroups of index p2 are classified. This volume contains hundreds of original exercises (with all difficult exercises being solved) and an extended list of about 700 open problems. The book is based on Volume 1, and it is suitable for researchers and graduate students of mathematics with a modest background on algebra.

International Journal of Neutrosophic Science (IJNS) is a peer-review journal publishing high quality experimental and theoretical research in all areas of Neutrosophic and its Applications. IJNS is published quarterly. IJNS is devoted to the publication of peer-reviewed original research papers lying in the domain of neutrosophic sets and systems. Papers submitted for possible publication may concern with foundations, neutrosophic logic and mathematical structures in the neutrosophic setting. Besides providing emphasis on topics like artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, image processing, robotics, decision making, data analysis, data mining, applications of neutrosophic mathematical theories contributing to economics, finance, management, industries, electronics, and communications are promoted.

This book presents a thorough explanation of the notation of summation, some unusual material on inequalities, an extended treatment of mathematical induction, and basic probability theory (including the explanation that all gambling systems must fail). It also contains a complete treatment of vector algebra (including the dot and cross product). This is usually reserved for a calculus course, but is properly algebra, and so belongs in any algebra book.Since this book deals with algebra from A to Z, it starts at the beginning with the arithmetic of the counting numbers and their extensions, i.e. the negative numbers and the rational numbers. However, these very elementary items are treated from an advanced point of view. The teacher should assign the first three chapters as outside reading, using only one day per chapter for classroom discussion. The remaining chapters cover all of the usual topics in college algebra, but they contain many unusual items not found in the standard college algebra course. As an example, the circle notation for a composite function is now standard material, but this book explains just why that notation is needed. The book concludes with a presentation of the Peano Axioms. This advanced topic should be available to all mathematics students, whether they are first year algebra students or are working for a PhD degree.
