Anchored in Humility: A Christian Man's Journey of Faith, Hope, Grace, and Love is a book I am humbled to share. This book reflects my journey of discovering the true meaning of humility and how it has impacted my life as a Christian. Growing up in Trenton, New Jersey, as a young boy, I learned the value of hard work, determination, and faith. My journey has taken me through different phases of life, from a young man in the United States Navy to a mature man today, and has taught me many lessons along the way. I am still learning some things today. This book is a collection of my personal experiences, lessons learned, and reflections on my faith, hope, grace, and love journey. Everyone can benefit from hearing from my perspective and the challenges and triumphs I have faced.

Salvation is anchored in grace, rooted in God's favor toward us in his Son, the Lord Christ. Anchored in Grace is a celebration of these exceeding riches of God's grace toward sinners in Christ Jesus. These are realities with which Christians need to be thoroughly acquainted. They are paths to walk so that we do not miss our way to heaven, nor fail to honor the Lord God along the way. They are central truths, humbling truths, saving truths, and comforting truths. Not least, they are God-glorifying truths, for the great end of our salvation is the praise of the glory of God's grace. When God saves sinners, it reveals his wisdom and power, his love and compassion, his justice and truth, as nothing else. In Christ crucified, we are given insights into the gracious heart of God Almighty that can be found nowhere else. There his majesty, might, and mercy are on display, and there we find life everlasting. When our faith is anchored in this grace, holiness and happiness take root in our hearts. Here sinners are liberated from condemnation, dread, and wrath. Here Christians are relieved of fear, confusion, and pride. Here we may find peace, certainty, purpose, joy, and hope. With this in mind, Anchored in Grace provides a brief survey of the grace of God in Christ revealed in the Scriptures, tracing the arc of his saving dealings with lost men and women. It is by no means exhaustive, but rather sets out some of the fixed points in which humble faith can rest so as to exalt and enjoy God in all his saving kindnesses in his Son.

While humility is not especially valued in modern Western culture, Jennifer Clement argues here, it is central to sixteenth- and seventeenth-century understandings of Christian faith and behavior, and is vital to early modern concepts of the self. As this study shows, early modern literary engagements with humility link it to self-knowledge through the practice of right reading, and make humility foundational to any proper understanding of human agency. Yet humility has received little critical interest, and has often been misunderstood as a false virtue that engenders only self-abjection. This study offers an overview of various ways in which humility is discussed, deployed, or resisted in early modern texts ranging from the explicitly religious and autobiographical prose of Katherine Parr and John Donne, to the more politically motivated prose of Queen Elizabeth I and the seventeenth-century reformer and radical Thomas Tryon. As part of the wider 'turn to religion' in early modern studies, this study seeks to complicate our understanding of a mainstream early modern virtue, and to problematize a mode of critical analysis that assumes agency is always defined by resistance.

The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God shall stand forever (Isaiah 40:8, Living Bible). In this book, Pauline Nosiri reveals how the Word of God is so powerful for everyday living. The Scripture declares that the Word of God must come to pass. The Lord said to Moses, When did I become weak? Now, you shall see whether my word comes true or not! Yes, the Bible is like poetry, but the Holy Spirit will make it known to you if you decide to read it daily. It is hard for you to befriend someone without knowing who he is. God from the beginning wants you to come closer to Him so that you can know Him better. If you do not fall in love with God, you are not making Him number one in your life. To know Him, you have to draw near Him. You must see God through reading of His Word; see your Father through the eye of faith.

The 21st century has seen a renewed interest in cultivating positive character traits, or virtues, to foster personal growth. Humility is a virtue that has long been understood--especially by early theological thinking and Western philosophers--through its associations with meekness and servility. Even in more recent, secular contexts, humility is associated with low-mindedness, self-denigration, and even self-loathing. While it seems paradoxical that this virtue can be developed to achieve a sense of well-being, this volume provides a comprehensive exploration of humility as an admirable and desirable trait that allows us to place the needs of others before our own, keep our accomplishments in perspective, and fully realize our small place in the world. In a series of multidisciplinary essays spanning religious and secular traditions, this volume introduces readers to the many facets of humility. Essays explore perspectives from Christianity, Judaism, and Islam on the role of humility in determining how we should align ourselves with a higher spiritual power. Other essays examine the epistemic value of humility in the development of knowledge, and the applied nature of this virtue within the professional fields of politics, business management, nursing and hospice care, and competitive sports. This collection concludes by considering the possibility of humility as the most important virtue, foundational to the moral development and expression of all other virtues.
